New Volquartsen Scorpion or older Hi Standard Hamden?
Getting the itch to get a backup 22 for BE.
Of course I need a red dot on any 22 for BE.
Anyone shoot either of these 2 models?

I shoot a 106. It is kind of a hybrid with modern rail and a Victor barrel but pistol shoots nice. I have decided that my next backup to my backup is going to be Ruger's MK IV Competition. Looks like they finally made a new Bullseye pistol. Info. NFI https://gundigest.com/reviews/handguns-reviews/new-rimfire-ruger-mark-iv-gets-competitive-and-tactical

I think if I had to choose, I would take my HS over my Scorpion, although I like both.

I loved my Scorpion. It just fit my hand perfectly and the balance is great. Zero alibis in almost 10k shots. It was a really good gun that helped bring me from around 200 to the 280s in a matter of 2 years.

Wow. That's dead reliable.
I like you am trying to get into the 280's more often.
Hows those Hi Standard's for reliability?
Magazine issues anyone?

It's entirely anecdotal with regard to both High Standards and Scorpions, but:
I love my Scorpion as it's wonderfully accurate with a decent trigger. The reliability has been perfect. I do not remember any malfunctions aside from two dud rounds of Eley and I have never had an alibi with it. (oh no!).
I don't have any particular experience with High Standards other than seeing some of them go down at matches. It's not something I paid close attention to so I couldn't tell you exactly how many.

I forgot whether I was trying to dot the T or cross the I. Only explanation for the stray My old High Standard is 100% (oh no! also) reliable and very accurate.

Nicely done Len.
How about a S&W Model 41 (circa 1994 drilled and tapped) vs your High Standard 106?
LGS just got the 41 on a trade and a friend is looking to sell his HS.
Ive always wanted an older 41 but the HS is cool also......decisions decisions

I would say the difference between a 41 and a HS like mine is purely personal. You have to shoot the one that fits your hand and mind the best. Both pistols will shoot HM scores. Both have great triggers and both can be finicky until you get them perfect and then they are perfect. I know the ammo I need to shoot in either pistol and trust both of them to perform better then me. Too bad you can't take them both out for a test drive. My old 41 is circa 1973

Re: New Volquartsen Scorpion or older Hi Standard Hamden?
Ima gonna shoot the HS tomorrow morn for a test drive. The 41 I prolly wont be able to shoot prior to purchase. Thing is the 41 comes w/no box and only 1 mag . For all my other pistolas I have all paperwork, boxes, lock, etc, etc that came with the gun. I keep all my stuff pristine so this 41 has some negatives Im not crazy about. Its a vintage 1994 w/the lazer etching as opposed to the stamped versions and deeeeep blue of the earlier version. And the LGS certainly aint giving it away at $950 American.
Id have to add the rail, an optic and at least 3 mags.

I've had my Victor for a little over a year, just purchased a Clark Custom Supermatic.
I have had some issues with reliability (magazines) with it, no issues ever with either Volquartson (or my 41s). I just like the feel of the HS better than the Scorpion.
If the 41 is included in the choices, that would be my #1 choice of the three, particularly for bullseye competition. The 41 is still made, parts are easily available, as are multiple other aftermarket stuff, grips, barrels, etc. I think LenV hit it on the nose, they are all super capable, depends on personal preference. If you have any plans to be in the San Diego area you are welcome to shoot mine to compare. (75 and sunny today:))

Re: New Volquartsen Scorpion or older Hi Standard Hamden?
Thank You Greg .....but Im on the east coast.
But yeah, the 41 is in the running. The pistol would be for bullseye shooting exclusively.
Ive always wanted a 41. One of the best looking platforms Ive ever seen. And its like a Remington 870 or ruger 10/22 where they made millions of them.
Ill get one eventually. Might be this one might not.
I like to know the history of ownership and round count of anything I buy used and I don't buy many guns either....Im broke with 3 kids and a wife.lol

Got to shoot a friends HS 107 Military 6" fluted bbl yesterday.
Man, that trigger is sweet.
Accurate too.
Unfortunately I had 5 FTF's in 30 shots.
That's not gonna cut it for competition bullseye.......
