Cleaning Nelson Plastic Magazines
I am using the Nelson plastic mags with my conversion unit and wondered if there is any problem cleaning them with bore solvent (Ed's Red) and qtips? Will the solvent eat the plastic over time?

Mine stay very clean, I just cleaned them last week and my conversion probably has at least 7k rounds through it, maybe closer to 10k. I used powder blast ans didn't seem to harm it. Ed's Red usually has acetone in it right? Might not be the best choice but I doubt it would harm it badly as long as you don't soak them overnight or something.

I've been using Ballistol (The Kaiser's CLP) with no ill effect. I was also concerned about how the plastic would react to various solvents.

I clean mags by taking apart and cleaning in hot soapy water. Get them good and dry and put them back together. A clean bottle brush with a touch of oil for lube. Also check for burrs where stuff moves.

Nitro Cleaner. Plastic, paint, even electronic safe and a terrific cleaner / degreaser.

Re: Cleaning Nelson Plastic Magazines
I don't usually tell people my cleaning secret, but since I've been doing it this way for 30 years, the word is probably out anyway.
I use WD-40 for cleaning every part of the gun / magazine.
The pressurized can blows most of the crud off, an old toothbrush gets the rest, and any residual WD-40 just keeps the gun / mag. from rusting.
I use wet patches on the .22 barrel, and brushes on the .45, although my hard cast .45 bullets don't lead the barrel at all.
I usually clean whichever gun I've been using for training, league, or matches once a week ( about 300 rounds ).
You won't find too many people recommending WD-40, but it works for me (30 years on my guns).
It never drys out or accumulates because I clean the guns once a week.
I don't use it for lube, i use the thinest weight of synthetic Mobil one oil. One quart lasts a couple years.
Like I said, it works for me...Jim

Re: Cleaning Nelson Plastic Magazines
Never cleaned either 22 or 45 mags yet. probably 10k on 22 and 7k on 45.
Saying that, I have wiped off the followers with a hoppes patch a time or two over the last couple of years. I've never taken them apart and cleaned them.

My gunsmith always maintains if it isn't causing a malfunction, don't worry about it.
