Cleaning the magazines
Just curious how often some of you clean your magazines. Just cleaned my 1911 mags for the first time in years, surprisingly they still worked fine despite a heavy deposit buildup. Then again some people never clean them. How often is recommended by those that know more than me?

I hate to say it, but I've been shooting Bullseye since 1974 and I think I've cleaned them maybe twice in that time.

Well it's been 8 years for me, maybe I should wait longer between cleanings?cdrt wrote:I hate to say it, but I've been shooting Bullseye since 1974 and I think I've cleaned them maybe twice in that time.

Ditto on 1974. I will clean them if they ever need it. Oops misread. Started in 72 and haven't cleaned them since 74. Only the 41, Mk1 and High Standard mags are really that old. Does buying new ones count as cleaning?

If this concerns you just remember to clean your magazines just after the holiday season, before shooting season.
I'm with the others in that my .45 1911 magazines do not get cleaned often. My .22 conversion and Pardini magazines do however get cleaned annually.
