38 special ammunition
First topic message reminder :
Specifically for a S&W 52-2
I did a quick search and did not turn up a consensus for factory ammo to start. I see a few recipes to load with which I will do later.
What FPS should I look for in 148G HBSWC ?

Re: 38 special ammunition
Terry was giving me so much useful information over the phone, just like last time, I don't think I ever asked him how much they cost.
He is the ONLY person who has ever told me if I didn't like the bullets, just keep them and he would replace them with something I would prefer. Since then, I've never said anything about the cost. Very pleased.

Wash in solvent, tumble in 45-45-10, air dry, enjoy.

Re: 38 special ammunition
Greetings,
To load the Remington HBWC bullets, here is my process. (Pirated from C.E. Harris, thanks)
Use only wadcutter brass. i.e. R-P or Western. They have case walls with minimum taper for seating the long HBWC bullet.
Deprime and clean your brass. DO NOT SIZE the brass at this time.
Prime the brass and mouth flare.
Charge with powder.
Seat the HBWC.
Taper or Roll Crimp.
Then, SIZE the loaded round with the Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die.
Notice the difference in group size with the following targets fired at 50 yards...
Cheers,
Dave

Re: 38 special ammunition
Ok, so it takes a good solvent to get the manufacturing goop off. When you guys say tumble......do you mean to roll them around or do you mean tumble like I tumble with ss pins to clean brass ? I can now figure out how to make up some lube
Thank

I've heard roll in a towel like polishing a bowling ball.

Re: 38 special ammunition
I think that they're referring to using tumble style lube like Lee liquid alox or 45-45-10 after cleaning.
Why work up stuff to lube when it's so cheap to buy???

Re: 38 special ammunition
find yourself one of the little square plastic pickle jars.. they will hold 500 bullets quite easily and work great for tumbling bullets with 45-45-10

Re: 38 special ammunition
I would load them and shoot them. If you feel that you have better stuff then just shoot them on the short line. I never clean and re-lube bullets. Someone can slap me if I have done it wrong all these years.Multiracer wrote:with these dirty little buggers ?

Re: 38 special ammunition
Pretty incredible round. Is there any other semi auto that shoots them as well as a mdl 52 or revolver?

Re: 38 special ammunition
Hello Dave those .38 special wadcutters you reload show some very impressive accuracy. You mentioned that you de-prime the brass without resizing. My question is how do you de-prime without resizing?
thanks and have a great weekend.

Re: 38 special ammunition
Hi troystaten, you can deprime without resizing by using a universal decapping die. Or by using a resizing die designed for a larger caliber, e.g. using a .45 resizing die to deprime 38.
