Hammerli 208 serial numbers
I just got my new Bullseye pistol - Hammerli 208 and am extremely pleased with the gun's performance.
I have 2 questions which I hope someone can help me with.
1. The serial number on the gun is G 29217. In what year was the gun manufactured?
2. The seller of the gun claims that the gun is brand new (new old stock) as it came from the manufacturer. It did come with the red box, manual and a tool bag with a ball tipped cleaning rod, a brush, jag, thin punch and 3 Allen wrenches.
It does appear to be in an excellent shape. However, there are rather thick abrasion lines (not scratches) on the frame on the right and left sides, right where the slide rides on it. They were obviously made by the slide and is what is normally seen on any gun after it's been fired, where the glueing has been worn off.
My question is - if it is a brand new gun, would the wear lines be so obvious just from the manufacturer testing it ?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
PS I tried to upload photos, but the resolution is too great to attach the files.

Re: Hammerli 208 serial numbers
Depends on the blueing Hammerli slides are not as tight as a 1911 slide. I would have to see a picture. The critical factor in determining wear and tear is the breach face and barrel. If barrel is bright and shinny and the rifling sharp you are ok.
If the gun runs 100% and holds under the x ring at 50 yards I would not worry about it.
I would rather a beat up Hammerli that shoots 100% and holds under an inch then a showpiece that does not run and has a damaged crown.
I would not dry fire it without a dummy round or plug.

Re: Hammerli 208 serial numbers
The bore looks very bright and shiny. I ran 150 rounds through it without a hitch. Extremely accurate . I only shot it indoors at 50' with iron sights on a slow fire target and it held the 10 ring 7 consequtive times in a row.
I'll try to post the pictures ( just need to find how to lower camera's resolution).
Does anyone know the year of production based on the serial number?
Thank you.

not bad, but 50 yards is where accuracy is tested.Bullseye99 wrote:The bore looks very bright and shiny. I ran 150 rounds through it without a hitch. Extremely accurate . I only shot it indoors at 50' with iron sights on a slow fire target and it held the 10 ring 7 consequtive times in a row.

From a sand bag if you can shoot one hole 10 ring is close it will likely hold 1 inch. I take the pictures and then shrink them with MS Paint Ap. I would say if you paid under $2400 you did wellChris Miceli wrote:not bad, but 50 yards is where accuracy is tested.Bullseye99 wrote:The bore looks very bright and shiny.
