Scope that Fits Leupold STD Mount
Im scoping my Smith & Wesson model 14 Target Masterpiece. I have two mounts for it: Leupold STD with low rise Leupold rings and a Weaver 401 mount. I'd prefer the Leupold since it rides lower and seems more solid,
but the rings are set so close together that the Ultradot Matchdot II that I have won't fit (the chunky center part gets in the way). To me, it looks like if I want to use the Leupold mount/rings then I need some kind of straight tube red dot, or lensatic optic, or at least one that is mostly straight. Can anyone recommend such a scope? I can put the Matchdot on another gun, since I'll be scoping all three. Or should I just go with the Weaver?

Thanks. I just came back from dropping off the model 14 at the gunsmith's. He is going to drill and tap it for the Weaver mount and have it back to me in no more than 10 days. I'll save the Leupold K frame mount for something else.jmdavis wrote:weaver with extra low rings.

If it is already drilled and tapped for the Leupold mount it is a lot easier on the pistol to drill the 401 mount to fit the existing holes. I did that to my 27 when it was time to take the Leupold scope off and put a dot on.

This gun has never had a scope on it. I'm going to use it as my Centerfire gun for the foreseeable future, and then in time take the scope off, go back to iron sights, and use it just for DR. That's the plan, anyway.
Thanks, guys

Gary this is what the 401 mount looks like on two different styles of model 14's.
