Springfield Armory XD sight adjustment
I have a Springfield Armory XD in 45acp, it is one of the older ones and has a fixed front and rear sight. For me the gun shoots about 3-4 inches to the left. I have tried to move the rear sight to the right but have not been able to get the sight to budge. I have tried clamping the slide to a heavy bench and using a brass punch and a steel hammer have not gotten it to budge. I also tried making a jig to hold the slide in my vise and use the vise as a press with the brass punch. Would one of those fancy sight pushers from Brownells do the trick?
thanks

Hey Multiracer both the front and rear sights are in sliding dovetails so they should move.

I keep a product called Kroil around for just such situations. It sounds like there is a thread-locker or adhesive that is holding the rear site. Penetration oil (such as Kroil) and/or heat will allow loosening the adhesive.

When I put adjustable sight on my XD Tactical it took custom jaws for my bench vise & a LARGE hammer to budge them.
I'm thinking they were installed with a hydraulic press initially & they don't want us moving them.

Thanks Steve that certainly seems to be the case with mine. Very annoying as it seems like a decent pistol, especially since I had the trigger replaced.

Springfield armory uses a cryo process to install the sights, it is an absolute bear to move them without destroying. Unless you have a 'sight pusher tool' (and even then its a bitch) OR intend to replace the rear sight with something else, I recommend leaving it as is.

Thank you Andrew, the cryo process sounds about right, I understand the desire to have a rugged sight but that process seems a bit excessive.

Front sight on XDM was easy to remove. Why not just adjust the front sight?

It may be a range of tolerance...on my XD both front & rear sights took serious effort to move.

Re: Springfield Armory XD sight adjustment
Every time I correct the sights on a new gun that groups to the left I find that I get use to the trigger and grip and start shooting it to the right. I have went to just moving to my finger on the trigger till I have used it a while and it starts shooting to the right. Don

Thank you Magload, I will give that a try. I don't shoot this pistol that often so it could very well be me. I really don't like shooting this pistol compared to my tuned up 1911.

Your welcome it happens to me with nearly every gun I buy. Dontroystaten wrote:Thank you Magload, I will give that a try. I don't shoot this pistol that often so it could very well be me. I really don't like shooting this pistol compared to my tuned up 1911.

I guess the question I would have Magload is do I use less finger on the trigger or more to move the point of aim to the right (I am shooting right handed). Thanks

More the first joint back from the tip. It is said that the trigger against the bone is better then the meaty part of the finger. I believe that is from Zinn. Don

Re: Springfield Armory XD sight adjustment
Hey Don, I shot the pistol some more and as I got used to it the point of impact improved, I think I was flinching a bit. This pistol has a bit more recoil especially with factory ball ammo compared to my 1911 that has a red dot and is set up to shoot with mild wad cutter ammo.

Re: Springfield Armory XD sight adjustment
Glad to hear that. Shooting a new gun to the left and left and low is a common problem for a lot of people myself being one of them. Not so much now that I been shooting BE for a year and understand what is happening. Some sights are so hard to move it is a shame to start off moving them then have to move them back later. Don
