52-2 Slide Stop
I am having a hard time locating the correct slide stop for my 52-2. Two times from Numich and no luck.
There is enough wear on mine that I am concerned about lock up. Any thoughts out there? I may have to see about welding this one up.
Thanks in advance
Alex

Re: 52-2 Slide Stop
do the 39s and 52 share similar parts?

They do, but apparently not the slide stop. Bunch of variations.

Best to keep searching eBay and gunbroker. Just about all my 52 parts collection came from there. Be tough to find a new uncut slide stop but I've seen them.

Re: 52-2 Slide Stop
Greetings,
I did buy a new one from Numrich about three months ago. They show up as stock gets replenished.
Occasionally, they show up on eBay. BUT, BEWARE. Most folks do not know what they are selling.
It seems the Model 52 slide stop measures 0.204" diameter.
A Model 39 measures 0.200" diameter.
The one Numrich sent me was the correct diameter and new, however, the internal parts were missing. They did mail me what parts they had after a telephone call.
Also, the slide stop is the same for all the Model 52 models.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: 52-2 Slide Stop
Some interesting information on fitting a S&W M52 slide stop in this thread from another forum:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/540302-model-52-2-slide-stop.html
When I had disassembled my filthy used 52-2 I thought my slide stop had a lot of wear from a 1911 point of view.

Same for me Steve.. I've had my wife's 52-1 for over 35 years.. first time I pulled it apart I thought the slide stop was worn, but Jackie Best straightened me out pretty quickly

Tecva, post a picture of your stop... Never seen one that wasn't honed in the middle to fit the lower lug of the barrel. that may be what you are seeing.

Re: 52-2 Slide Stop
Thanks for all the input. The first one Numich sent me was the right diameter, but to short. Mine has a bevel ground into the distal end. The second one was the correct length but too large in diameter. One of the first times I called S&W I was told the part was NLA. Sometime later I was told that it was, but it was a PC part only and they would have to fit it. I understand the fitament. No barrel link, so the slide stop determines the upper lug engagement. I am going to check it with some plastigauge tomorrow. Wonder where I could find the upper lug engagement specs? How far up the barrel is supposed to move to be properly engaged?
Thanks
Alex
Thanks
Alex
