Volquartsen Front Strap
Been playing with a Volquartsen 22/45. While I'm not planning to shoot bullseye with it, over the years I've cultivated a liking for the simple 1911 grip frame without thumb rests, finger grooves and the like. Good stippling or checkering works for me. Is there anyone out there checkering the front strap of the aluminum volquartsen frame?

I've seen Wilson combat checker the front and rear strap of the Beretts 92 which is an aluminum alloy frame.

Looks like the speed steel boys are running skateboard tape on them

Can be checkered and re-anodized.

I been using skateboard tape. Checkering look better but cost a lot more and the tape feels better then some of the checkering I have on many of my guns. Don

You will find tape in various positions on nearly all of my pistols because it simply works.
I consider checkering to be a strictly cosmetic mod in comparison.

I have had a Wilson checkering strap on a 22/45. It does the job OK.
Grip tape was an improvement over it.
Checkering is great, no maintenance, no failure. I have it on nearly every pistol I have for that reason.
That being said, I feel grip tape is “grippier” than checkering and strongly recommend you give it a try first, as it is a DIY mod anyone can make to a pistol that is safe, cheap, effective, and reversible.

Big fan of checkering on my 1911s. 20LPI for the man that works with his hands and 30LPI for the desk jocky. I've been both in my shooting life. Stippling on my issue AFPG guns was almost as good and the Clark Tiger Tooth worked well but today quality guns at my house are checkered. Always figured the tape was for guns that did not deal well with the checkering file.
