38 Special DEWC Load?
Yo!
I've searched the forum and seem to have found conflicting views. Maybe we can get clarity?
I recently inherited 2K cast DEWC and would like to put them to use. So:
1) Either use 2.7 Bullseye or 2.7 WST
and
2) Load them a little proud of the case.
Anything else to know?
Warm regards,
T

Roll crimp, or, taper if your inclined. enough to keep the bullet from moving and providing maximum powder burn.

If they are DEWC not HBWC you might try a bit hotter load, say 3 grains.

I've been using 2.7 Bullseye with HBWC, very accurate but smokey as all get out:shock:. I plan to try some WST next batch.
I'm not sure what " proud of the case" means, but I try to copy the Winchester 38 Super Match bullets. I seat the bullet just inside the case and use a roll crimp. The SM bullets are 1.16" COAL.

Yes, normally the cast wadcutters will be seated out of the case. I believe they might even have a crimp grooove.

Re: 38 Special DEWC Load?
I don't want to speak heresy, but...
I have a 158gr DEWC Lee mold with tumble lube grooves and I seat those just like the Remington HBWC... even with the case mouth and then crimp over the edge. Not like crazy crimp, but enough that it is there. 2.7/2.8 gr bullseye works just fine. These shoot X-ring at 25 yards.
Maybe this works cause I only shoot these out of my Model 52, and you guys are talking about another setup.

Thx, didn't realize that. The ones I load are swaged I think. Any idea why a cast bullets would shoot better loaded differently? The only experience I have had with cast full wadcutters was in 32long, and I never had great success with them.

Re: 38 Special DEWC Load?
I load both so they look just like Remingtons factory 148 grain hbwc with just a little roll crimp. For a revolver I don't think it is that critical though (which is what I use them in).

No heretics here! Just many valued opinions that all work.
Cast bullets in revolvers I usually seat out and crimp in the groove.
Swaged, seat flush like factory. Roll crimps on both.
M52, I guess they all have to be flush
