That's figure 1.2 in Chapter 1 of the AMU Pistol Marksmanship Training Guide labeled "Situation of the Over-all Center of Gravity of the Entire System". A good read and free (http://www.bullseyepistol.com/amucover.htm). The manual does a good job (much better than I can) of describing that image and what it represents.

It is old school. Most people don’t shoot like that. The stance is more 45 degrees relative to the firing line. There is a way to find YOUR best stance. Put a laser on the pistol and hold it towards a wall across a large room. As you go from 90 degrees from the firing line as shown to parallel the movement changes from horizontal to vertical. You want to be where it is circular. For most people this is about 45 to the firing line.
