Does anyone shoot JHP for 50 yards and SWC for 25 yards
I am considering doing this for several reasons. I was wondering who might be doing this and why? Was also wondering what the down side is other than cleaning more often?

Do you mean 25 & 50 feet or 25 & 50 yards?
I don't know of any bullseye shooting that's done at 25 feet.

I meant yards. I see I used the foot mark. Sorry

Back when I was competing I used the Nosler at 50 yards and swaged 185 gr. LWCHP at the short line. I was not as skilled as you. I never made the 2600 club. I never cleaned the barrel between the CF and .45 matches and my CF slow fires never seemed to suffer for it. I was shooting Kart barrels.

I know of a High Master who uses jacketed @ 50 and lead @ 25. The jacketed are more consistent and give a slight edge in accuracy. Hard holders can take advantage of that. For me, my lead SWC loads are sub 2" @ 50, which is far better than I can hold. So I save pricier jacketed bullets for EIC matches.

Yes, I do it. Zero 185gr JHP at 50y and Zero 185gr LWCHP at 25y. I use a frame mount and 4.7gr BE for the JHP load and 3.8 BE for 25y load. Only a 4 click drop from the 50y line. No windage. I do not clean from CF to .45 and have no issues. I do clean just before match and foul gun with 30 rounds long line.
Reason is the JHP are more accurate than the lead, but lead is cheaper and easier on the barrel.

Do you find JHP and lead SWC to shoot to a different point of aim and do you adjust for it?

There will usually be a zero difference. With my wadgun I use 185 Hornady 185 JSWCs for 50 with 4.4 of BE. At 25 I use 200gr Zero lead SWCs with 3.7. There is a 6 click difference. At 25 one will shoot x to 10 at 12 and the other X to 10 at 6, assuming that I do my part.

I switched to the JHP for the long line but continued to use lead on the short line. In my gun with my loads, scope setting is the same, which makes my life much easier. Less thinking. Very happy with the combination.

I can never remember. Is accuracy supposed to be affected by shooting lead after jacketed bullets or the other way around?
Thanks

Yes, but with the loads I use there is usually only a 4 click difference in elevation only.

I have tested this in a rest and yes the first round can but not always be outside the group but only slightly. This is going from short line to long line in the 45 match. There was no accuracy decrease going from copper to lead at 25 yards. In my option the first shot going from lead to JHP is a non-issue.PMcfall wrote:I can never remember. Different point of impact
Did some testing the last few days and found out of my gun with a Aimpoint micro slide mounted, that for lead at 25 yards I need 6 clicks right and needed to move 9 click down at 25 yards when zeroed for JHP at 50 yards. Using 4.6 BE for JHP at 50 and 3.8 for lead at 25 yards. So different impact point from my gun left to right.
