Pachmayr Pistol Box - interior height?
Do the Pachmayr pistol boxes (found used online) have enough interior height to accommodate pistols with red dots on them?
Or would I be better off getting a new StrongBox or Precision Pistol Box?
Thanks!

I don't have a Pachmayr box so I can't answer your question. I do have a small 2 pistol Precision Pistol Box and it stores my 1911 and model 41 with Ultradots nicely. It's a very well made box and the maker,Greg, is a pleasure to do business with.

The older model Pachmayer boxes are too short they way they are to accomadate dot sights. If you get a box without a separate compartment at the bottom, you can lower the existing shelf. If you do have that compartment, you can build a new tray that will store the guns in a lower position.
The box on the left is a newer Gunho. I built that tray b/c the OEM one did not hold the guns securely and they would usually fall out and bump each other. As a bonus, the guns all face forward and they sit lower too. The Pachmayer box on the right is too short as is but I tried to show a pic with the dot gun orientated like that custom tray would be. That box has the lower compartment so I'm kind of stuck with a custom tray. If you don't like to tinker with stuff, either of those modern boxes you referenced would work well..
Good luck.

Re: Pachmayr Pistol Box - interior height?
Greetings,
The older Pachmayr boxes are NOT scope friendly.
The following only works on boxes without the "back door".
What I did is carefully remove the two tray guides (mine were only stapled in) and lower the guides to accept a scoped pistol/revolver.
Then carefully tap the staples of the guides back into the box.
Also allow for scope clearance as lowering the tray guides reduces available space for the scope when you close the lid.
Cheers,
Dave

I simply removed the slide out tray, put scoped pistols in a gun rug and lie them flat in the box.
