.45ACP Bullseye Ammunition Options ?
I would love to expand my Bullseye horizons to include a .45ACP in the form of a Springfield RO or similar to begin . The major hurdle (as I see it) is the cost of the ammunition - if you don't reload . General round ball target loads from major brands are now $0.40 a round - for factory match grade .45ACP ammunition you step up to $0.83 a round . Are there any lower cost .45ACP bullseye ammunition options (other than reloading) that I have over looked ?

You can buy 230GR hardball in Winchester 100rd packs at Wal-Mart for $32/100. If you get good at shooting the hardball you will be awesome with reloads.
My math shows that (depending on the bullet I pick) I can reload for about $15-17/100 (if I did the math correctly)
Get started with the RO and the Hardball, and start shooting in leagues and matches near you. You will meet friends that are reloading, and they will probably sell you some for less than the hardball costs. Then you can start working on acquiring the reloading stuff you will need. You might even bump into another shooter who is getting rid of some old stuff.

Probably not the best, but I have had good luck with Speer Lawman. You can get it for $.35 a shot if you buy in bulk.
Very interested in what others have to say.

True - of course by then you could have bought quality reloading gear twice over and probably improved the shooting more rapidly as well ... not to mention developing another pleasant hobby (assuming one has the time). If you get good at shooting the hardball you will be awesome with reloads.

NSK Link
I used NSK for reloaded ammo before doing my own. They make a good product.

You can buy match grade 45 acp full metal jacket 185 hp, same as the army marksmanship unit uses for .42 a round from Atlanta Arms ammo. Great stuff, also it is new ammo loaded in new starline brass with the premium nosler 185 bullet. 450.00 a case of 1000( last time i priced it)

45 ACP lasts forever though - you only need 270 + 15 for potential alibis [+ smiley I don't have time to look for..:-)...].

45, really only need 180 + 10 alibis, then a hundred 22s.

Ah yes, don't shoot a lot of 22 matches with 45 size bullets.
Still need 15 for alibis tho ... NMC, Timed, Rapid... and 105 for the 22 stage.

Not really, Atlanta arms match 45, 450.00 for 1000. Thats 1000 new starline cases, 140.00 + shipping, 1000 primes, 39.00, 4thousand grams of powder 20.00 1000 nosler bullets 200.00 so if you loaded your own you would spend over 400.00, thats a good deal in anybody's book. You only save doing reloads with cheaper components and it more than likely will not be near as accurate.Bryan Coyle wrote:True - of course by then you could have bought quality reloading gear twice over and probably improved the shooting more rapidly as well ... not to mention developing another pleasant hobby (assuming one has the time). If you get good at shooting the hardball you will be awesome with reloads.

Never seen anyone need that many, you only shoot 90 rounds in each section, I keep 10 per section, but rarely have ever needed any and then no more than one or two. if you have that many alibis you need to visit the gunsmith.
