Never head of them. You could buy the Brazos bullets with the Hitek coating if you don't want pure lead going down the barrel.

I have always used Lead so that’s not a big deal.
I know a lot of people are using Zero 185 Jhp’s and then they say they use 160’s for the short line and I can’t seem to find jacketed so they must be using lead

Lead shoots softer than jacketed bullets. 160 less mass and lead; icing on the cake.

The 160's are my new favorite bullet. Low recoil and surprisingly accurate at 50 as well.

I cast my own but I use the same Magma brand mold that Brazos uses. I tumble lube mine, they offer traditional lube groove or the Hitek coated. I'm not sure of anyone else with this profile but there must be others.

Brazos makes good ones, Magnus make a 155 and a 170.  All have good reports.

+1 on the 160's being my favorite bullet.  When Brazos had had their grand opening I bought some Hi-Tek Gold 200's & 185's to try.  I really liked them so when they came out with a deal on unsized 160's in Hi-Tek Gold I jumped in deep and bought 60lbs (2,524 bullets).  Figured if nothing else I'd use them for practice.  Well it turned out they are very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.  After shooting my first match with them I bought another 60lb.  I've gone through about 1K I like them better every time I shoot them.

I will never shoot anything but coated bullets now.

ps I sized them @ .452 & I settled on 4.1 of WST, crimp @ .463.

I'm at 4.6 WST with a .463" crimp. I had to go that hot to cycle a tight pistol made by Jon which also has a heavy 9000SC.

Thank a lot guys! I have got to gain some points with my 45!
My Pardini SP & HP can only cover my ass in 22 and CF so much and it does cover it! So I am retooling the 45 and really could use everyone’s advice

KC built gun with integral slide cut and an H1, also running 17lb mainspring and a 10lb recoil spring.  I probably could go up a couple of grains my ejected brass barely make the net. Smile

Couple of things….

Yes, when people say 160, they are referring to lead.

You may already know this, but if you shoot jacketed (for long line) and then shoot lead (for short line) the common advice is to at least Bore Snake (or Ripcord if Otis fan) the bore before shooting jacketed again.

I did some ‘informal’ testing of the Brazos and Valiant 160s at 50 yards and the best ten shot group I was able to get at 50 yards was 2.1” with the Brazos Hi-Tek coated.  The Brazos coated 160s were sized by me to 0.452” using a Star Lube-Sizer.  (No, I did not lube the coated bullets, just sized them.)  p.s. The Valiant is a discontinued brand but many people consider them the gold standard of 160s.

There is another caster of the 160s but when I compared the Brazos to them, the Brazos were of better cast quality in my opinion.

I was like Dave. I ordered 60lbs of the 160 Hi-Tek coated bullets from Brazos when they first started and love them... I did have some std lubed bullets I ran through my Star that frankly shot a touch better in my current pistol at 50 compared to the Hi-Tek coated.. you mileage may vary with your pistol.

I'm running 4.4 of WST for both styles

I will say that Brazos does an excellent job with the Hi-Tek coating

We do have sized 160's now.

I have ordered and shot probably 130+ lbs now of the Brazos bullets. Most of them .45 180 & 200 gr coated BB SWC. Some 125 and 150 gr 9mm bullets. All quite good.

I see that you now have the stubby 160 SWC in .45, but you also have a 155 gr SWC in .45. Is it fair to ask if one is more accurate than another, or is it simply a shooter or gun preference. I would think that the 155 would feed more universally, and the 160 seems to have more bullet in contact with bore. Any wisdom you could offer. P.S. I generally load the 180 or 200s with 3.7 - 3.8 Clays or 4.0 - 4.1 WST or 3.9 - 4.0 VV N310.

I wish I could answer your question with personal experience, but I haven't loaded the 155 gr swc's yet.  I can say that the 160's do feed quite well and group surprisingly well.  Dave Salyer told us that this is his preferred projectile for 50 yard testing.  I've only loaded soft short line loads so far, so I'm not a witness to this yet.

In my guns from a RR the magma mold 160's are every bit as accurate as the heavier bullets at 50 yds and well under 2". I see little difference in accuracy between 4-4.4 of WST and have settled on 4.1.  IMHO the 160s  accuracy is affected more by crimp than powder weight. They are more accurate at a tighter crimp. The Brazos coated 160 bullet is no different. I was initially skeptical of the coating but I see no difference in accuracy between the coating and the lube. I really, really like not having to deal with the cleaning lube out of dies and ammo boxes )

Feeding is not an issue unless OAL is to short.
