Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
The 110 gr 9mm "JHP" (.355) bullets has been discussed here..but I can't find a source for them. Would love to load up some for my new S&W 986 5" revolver for 50 yard group testing.
Side Note: Hollow point bullets (lead cast) have been hands down the most accurate 50 yard bullet in my S&W 38/357 revolvers especially the GT 130gr .358 LHP.

Some folks are using 110 grain 38/357 (.357) bullets in their 9mm guns. As long as they fit in the chamber and throats they should be good to go.

What size groups are you getting with these bullets? Thanks.
And what is your load data? Thanks again!

Been easily averaging 1-1/2" 50 yard groups shooting prone double action with my 7" 686 S&W revolver (Burris XTS-135 scope). The revolver has a RevUp Action so single action no longer exists. I'm using Federal 38 spl (yellow brass) with 6.1 grains of CFE Pistol only to make the 120K power factor. The bullets shoot the same size groups even with reduced loads of CFE Pistol. The groups are the same with W231...but to meet the power factor I was at max charges so I switched to CFE.
Just ordered a 5" 986 9mm S&W and can't wait to try the GT 130 LHP in it. I'll size them down to .356, .357 and use the .358 in stock with my W231 again. Used the Hodgdon data center for loads, problem is "revolver" specific data is hard to find.

Why would you size them down?

Optics Planet was selling Koenig 9mm 110 grain match (JHP) for $20 a box of 50. It is a "competition intended load" and made in 38 Super also. I bought four boxes with free shipping and gave them to my son when he last visited...now I wish I had a box to experiment with in the 5" 986 revolver but he lives 3 hours from here.
Optics Planet is sold out and it's a pain getting loaded ammo shipped to NY. If I remember correctly I loaded 110gr JHP in my Manurhrin "Match 38" revolver with a 9mm cylinder and the accuracy at 50 yards was phenomenal. Just can't recall who made the 110 gr JHP bullet...must be something there if Koenig endorses it.

Why not...it's only "piece of mind" load development and doesn't cost me anything.S148 wrote:Upper40 wrote:

Wouldn't bullets listed as .380 auto be useable?
Ithought they would be .355ish.

Exactly. Why size them down? What do you think will happen if you don't?

Re: Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
I did a lot of testing and the .356 shot smaller groups in my 9mm than .357 did. And .358 sucked (sucked technical term for went everywhere)

Were these the exact same bullet but at different sizes? Which bullet? Which gun? Thanks.

Re: Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
This is a picture of a typical test day. That day I was shooting 130gr LSWC from Magnus sized to two different sizes. I shot them with 3 different charges to see if there was any difference. It became obvious that every load had smaller groups with .356 bullets than the .357. Target number 7 was Magnus 147gr LFP bullets that I wanted to run thru to compare and target 8 was my control target. Number 8 was with my 125gr JHP loads and go to round. It sort of puts the lead loads in perspective.I have no idea why the target posted sideways. Urgh. No 9 is me going postal with my EDC

Re: Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
Thanks for info! In my 38 spl loads I have seen differences in groups size by switching brass and especially the crimp. BTW: I have a 6" 686 with the PowerPort that groups OK but not as well as the non ported revolvers (in lead anyway).LenV wrote:This is a picture of a typical test day. Re: Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
It looks like your target #6 group, with a .357 bullet is smaller than the #5 target group with the .356 bullet. Presumably these are with the same charge, but that is covered up a bit. So, not every group. 2 of 3 groups shot favor the .356 bullet, but since you're shooting three comparisons, if they shoot close to another, somebody will 2 better groups and the other will get 1 better group - it's how you divide 3 into whole units.
With all due respect, it's hard to conclude much if anything from a 5-shot group.

Sounds like we need to move on! All I wanted was a source for 110 gr JHP bullets!

Re: Source for 9mm JHP 110 grain bullets
I've eventually read almost everything posted on this forum. I don't remember anyone mentioning 110gr for 9mm. I've got a great load for 110gr for my 38 but all my 9s use 115gr bullets. Lots of sources for them

Koenig's 110 grain ammo is loaded with .356" XTP bullets made by Hornady.

So try the .357 bullets. You can use them in 9mm.
