Approximate cost of loading .45 and .38
Does anyone have the approximate cost data to load .38 special and .45 ACP per round? (Just the components, not the reload equipment)
Thanks

Maybe $.09 if you cast your own .45 bullets.
Normally on a .45 your lead bullet will cost about $.08, primer $.04, powder $.02 and $.02 toward brass life. So $.16.
.38 won't be much less, maybe $.14-.15

Bullets are about .10 each for cast.
Powder about .02
Primer about .03
So cast is about .15 and jacketed about double that.

All depends, mainly the bullet being the the most pricy and variable. Brazos .45 160 gr. SWC runs 6.5 cents each. Rem .45 Match 185 FMJ SWC run 30 cents each now.

You can determine this yourself by going to various websites that sell components.

Just FYI, for me personally, although Reloading is less expensive, I certainly haven’t spent any less money since I started doing itBestdentist99 wrote:Thank you for the input.

I always tell new reloaders they won't save a dime reloading. They will however shoot 4-10 times as much.

The value in reloading is directly proportional to how much you plan on shooting.
Not to mention the .40/82 and .38/72 Marlins !

Of course these estimates assume that you get your brass for free. Some folks will initially buy their brass or buy brass down the road for that special long line load. The cost of equipment can be amortized over time and good equipment still retains some value on the resale market. Reloading is necessary for the average civilian to get to the top.

I'm a little under $.12 per round loading Zero 185 SWCHP, Win primers and VV N310 powder. Just over $.16 per round for Zero 185 JHP burning VV N310.

I load my 38 HBWC for about 12 cents/round or $6.00/50. I use Winchester primers, my own brass, Bullseye powder and Precision Delta lead. I load 2.5 gr of BE for my S&W model 52. It has very little recoil and is an accurate load.
Factory wadcutters run anywhere from $15.00 to $28.00/50. I cannot afford that so I reload. Right now I have about 3500 rounds ready for the range. When I get down to 1000, I start reloading again.

I don't reload to save money, I reload to spend that same money more efficiently.

I get bullets for free because I'm an owner of Brazos Bullets! We have the best prices for non-owners too. Plus there's no loss of quality to go with a lower cost. We are trying to be a win/win no brainer kind of company. So look us up when you're ready to buy projectiles.Bestdentist99 wrote:Does anyone have the approximate cost data to load .38 special and .45 ACP per round?
