Red dot mounts for S&W Mod. 52
To those of you shooting S&W Mod. 52 with red dot sights, what mount are you using? Since I don't want to drill & tap my pistol, I'm considering either a mount that uses the rear sight notch OR a frame mounted one like BME's "BWR." It attaches in the slots for the barrel weight. I'm concerned about the sight-notch arrangement affecting the recoil cycle of the slide. As for the frame mount, I've got a barrel weight mounted there right now and like how it dampens my movements. I'm assuming the red dot and mount there would basically accomplish the same thing. Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

Thanks Len! What grip is that? I've still got the OEM grip.

Len, thank you for info and pics. What brand & model red dot sight are you using on it? I assume you're having no issues with the arrangement impacting the recoil operation of the slide, right?
I kind of like your 30mm scope arrangement. I've been thinking of using an Ultradot Matchdot but hadn't considered a single ring setup like you have here. Did that work okay?

I am running an EGW mount with a Burris Fast Fire III. The mount perfectly replaces the rear sight, no drilling. Also, no change in cycling.

I tried both of the BME mounts on my 52-2 (which I have now sold). IMHO the small reflex sights (Burriss FF3 VV, etc) suit the 52 best - as long as your eyes are comfortable with that type of sight - I had a Vortex Venom 3moa on the BME mount and it really suited the style of the gun. No change to recoil/cycling.
I suffer from slight astigmatism and I found that I get a lot of dot "flare" with the micro reflex sights. I have now switched over almost totally to Ultradots on all of my other guns for that reason, but I did not feel that the UD on the applicable BME mount suited the 52 well. Again, IMHO only.

It ran great with the 30mm scope and a single mount. That is a Burris mount with 6 screws. It wasn't going anywhere. The scope was just a cheepo I threw on to test/play with the single mount system. I move scopes around a lot looking for the perfect combo. The group you see there was fired at 25yds one handed but it was a kind of combination slow and timed fire. A not really timed, timed fire.

Thanks Len! I appreciate the insights you've made with your experimenting. Still a nice group regardless.

I use the BME with a Vortex Venom 3 MOA. I just had 2 cataracts remove, lenses implanted and I shoot even better than before.
