So why do you want a grip mount. Its by far the least desirable mounting option.

How due you mount a red dot on a 1911 with out drilling holes etc. I have a dan wesson pointman that is $1500. Don't want to alter it in any way.

If you are comfortable with a micro sight like a Vortex Venom or Burriss Fastfire or similar and your 1911 has a target style rear sight you can get small mounts that slide into the rear sight dovetail. There are many brands. They work fine, but if you have astigmatism or other eyesight issue then folks find that those sights don't have such a clear round dot.
But, you could use an eyepal or other Iris attachment on your shooting glasses and may be able to correct the dot "burst" that way. Needs a bit of experimentation. IMHO
I had Vortex Venoms on many 1911's, but after I got serious about Bullseye I sold all of the sights and most of those guns. A properly set up "wad gun" 1911 will beat the socks off most "custom" 1911's.
