I don't want to alter the Gold Cup Nationalk match in any way. Just looking for a red dot scope mount that will attach to the pistol.

+1 on the grip mount it's your only option if you don't have a rail.

Re: Scope mounts for 1911
I use a grip mount, had it on for 20+ years. A lot of folks don't like them because they put the red dot a little higher than a slide or frame mount. I got used to it and it never bothered me. One advantage over a slide mount is your red dot doesn't take a beating. I think there may be a mount that replaces your rear sight available also. The only real option if you don't want to drill and tap your slide or frame.

Not sure if you realize this, you need to have a rail attached to your slide, or go with the grip mount. Attaching to your slide means drilling and tapping holes in the top of the slide. If you don't want to alter the gun in any way, a rail attached to the slide is not going to work out for you.smsnyder wrote:I don't want to alter the Gold Cup Nationalk match in any way. If you mount it on top, Jon Eulette (he's in these forums) sells a very nice rail.
.......and then you need to select an appropriate red dot sight.

Re: Scope mounts for 1911
Does anyone make a aftermarket 1911 slide that has a picatinny rail machined right into the slide. I have a new smith model that has the picatinny rail made right into the slide. Love it.

Another option is buy an aftermarket slide that is optic ready. Milled in slot for a red dot or scope. Any one make one?

KC does an integral slide mount for an H1. Accuracy X has their multi sight system. Slides must be fit to your frame and barrel.

I went with a rock river. You can buy a base with sights or without. I personally like the ears on it so you and pull the slide back with it.

If you go with the slide mount and decide to change back to iron sights down the road, it's as simple as removing the mount and filling the threaded holes with flat head screws. It doesn't look bad.

Rock River sells them with or without sights. Just remove the dot.

If you don't want to drill and tap the slide because you won't like how it looks in the future then you will positively hate the grip mount. They look good on the pistol. It's only after they come off that you get to see how much bluing was removed.

Re: Scope mounts for 1911
This 52 was perfect. It looked brand new and was 50 years old. I didn't want to hurt the slide. So, I put a grip mount on it. I don't think I had it on there for more then 6 months before I took it off to put a BME mount on there instead. Now I try to just show pictures of the left side. The bluing completely rubbed off where grips won't hide it.

Re: Scope mounts for 1911
All of the comments above are about mounts for tube sights. But small reflex (vortex venom, burriss ff3, etc) sight mounts can easily be fitted in the rear sight dovetail. No permanent modifications to the gun involved. Although must take care to protect finish under the mount plate.
Mr. Snyder. Many folks tried to convince you to buy a wad gun or have a Bullseye Smith customise a SARO. Now you see one of the reasons for that advice.
