Indoor Bullseye ammo question
I know it's expensive, but how does Federal Gold Match 45 SWC 185gr. ammo stack up to the old gold standard 3.5g bullseye powder and 185 or 200 SWC lead bullets for bullseye shooting? Is there another 45 round that is less expensive to try? We have a local indoor range running some leagues, but they do not allow reloaded ammo (I'm assuming insurance requirements). They will be either be running the slow fire leg at 25 yards, or may just use 50' reduced targets for all legs, so 50yd. accuracy isn't required.

Maybe Zero has something that will work for you; http://www.rozedist.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=RZD&Category_Code=ZBA-45ACP

I've looked at their Zero's website, but it looks like they are always out of stock on new 45ACP ammo.

I believe the Federal ammo you mention runs about 770-780 FPS, 3.5 grains of bulleye behind a 185 Grain lead swc will run slower. I have shot the Federal ammo and it is accurate in my 1911 but it is pricey. Wilson has some 200 grain lead swc that might work for you, not sure of the price.

I would agree although I'm not on a first name basis with anyone over there. I've had good luck calling them and asking for what you want. They are kind of slow in updating their website so they frequently have stock but it's not shown as such.Allgoodhits wrote:45ACP223 wrote:I've looked at their Zero's website, but it looks like they are always out of stock on new 45ACP ammo.

Federal Gold Match was the only reduced power option for folks that didn't load their own ammo for a long time. Now there are plenty of choices.
80 cents per pistol round is ridiculously expensive.
Roze distribution has options for about half that. Despite what their website says they're usually stocked; call them.

Understood. Call them, ask for Alison. 800-204-1526 Tell her Martin Johnson sent you. Owner is Margaret, her son Fred is the chief loader expert there.
Something else. Check the range and see if they differentiate between reloaded and "remanufactured commercial" ammo. Some will permit commercially remanufactured, when they don't trust individually reloaded. There are considerable savings with ZERO remanufactured ammo. Especially, with brass exchange option.

Thanks Martin, I will check with the range, that's a good point and a cheaper option if they will allow commercially remanufactured. I for one, don't understand why they don't allow personal reloads, but I'm guessing it has to do with their insurance policy.

Re: Indoor Bullseye ammo question
I just shoot the West Virginia state championship on Saturday and it’s the first time I got to shoot a Match in over seven years and I’m working here for the summer and had no way to reload for my 45 so I search the web for 45 Match grade ammo and found ASYM ammo out Arizona 185 jhp $150 for 250 rounds at 775 fps I shoot 180 rounds of it that day and only had 1 alibi and that one was on me ( broke my wrist ) this stuff was very accurate out of my gun never outside of the repair target!!! Haven’t shot in seven years take that all day long!! The website says it’s the same ammo that Brian Zins won his 11th national championship with!!

I would add, in addition to ASYM & ZERO ammo, ATLANTA ARMS "Elite" ammo is also excellent and used by many top BE/PP shooters on the line. Especially on the long line.

I have run through a couple of boxes and I like it. It is a little pricey.
