Air Pistol vs Bullseye Stance
Is the stance different for Air pistol and Bullseye shooting ? Looking to hear from accomplished shooters.

I use the same stance. The biggest difference is that the grip angle on most quality air pistols is a lot flatter than an upright 1911, also the lack of recoil. I've shot a 571 twice with my Steyr Evo10 with a red dot, best I've shot in a full bullseye 2700 is 2552.

I use exact same stance for BE and international disciplines. Was once NRA master (USAS AA) classified in all international events (except RF....didn't shoot it).

Re: Air Pistol vs Bullseye Stance
Like many others here, I use the same stance for all shooting disciplines. However, John Zurek told me he uses different stances for AP, .22, .45, etc. For air pistol his stance is more relaxed than for .45. Well, as long as it helps shooting good scores, people use whatever works for them.
Re: Air Pistol vs Bullseye Stance
I was about to say I use the same stance, but Javaduke's post made me think. I hadn't really thought about it, but I use the same position, but I am more tensed when shooting 45.
Re: Air Pistol vs Bullseye Stance
If by "stance" you mean foot position, and generally everything up to the hips, then yes, I use the same stance for bullseye and air pistol.
I'm not sure if I'm "accomplished" enough to meet your standards. Is there an application that I should fill out?

John, what happens from the hips up ? Waiving the application in your case.

My upper body is "firmer" or "more rigid" for bullseye than air pistol.
Don't ask about the neck up.

John, off subject: I lived in Cincinnati when I reached Expert. Did you shoot Bullseye in OH? A lot of folks from the Tri-State area used an Ex-Marine Pistol Team Armorer, Harold Johnson (who has since passed away). Tony Tennes was the high master at our club. You may have shot with him at Camp Perry. He was in the top ten during the late 90's. Just thought you might have known these guys.john bickar wrote:Phew. I did shoot bullseye in Ohio; I grew up at the Canton McKinley Rifle & Pistol Club.
I don't remember Harold Johnson, but I knew Tony Thinnes. That guy was a hard holder; I think he was 2650+. I also believe that we did shoot on a few Ohio teams at Camp Perry together, perhaps even one of the years when we won the Oglethorpe Trophy. I would have to look back through old results or pictures to confirm.
If you still see Tony, tell him I said hi.

Well do! I get back to Cincy to visit family at least once a year. I won't tell him I mispelled his last name. I ocassionaly run into him at the ranges. His brother was shooting BE a few years ago, and was a good shooter as well. Tony had a son and his refrigeration job got in the way, and he quit BE all together. I shot with him on the Cin. Revolver club team for the NRA indoor championship competition. He regularly cleaned my clock. He's also a heck of nice guy.

Re: Air Pistol vs Bullseye Stance
Since this OP has turned casual I can say they are Totally different. For Bullseye everything is about stance, position, grip, sight alignment, trigger control and breath control. For air pistol it's 100% about trigger control. I should say its all about trigger control for me. I'm pretty laid back about air pistol. I mean really laid back. I shoot sitting in my recliner with my feet raised and my elbow resting on a seat arm. It is the ultimate dry fire tool. Most of the time I will even put a pellet in it. The score is obviously not important. The important thing is the dot not moving when it goes off. Dot. Yes I have a dot on my air pistol. I have a Master card around here somewhere for "luft pistole" but haven't shot a match in awhile.
