Do any of you out there that are still using Star 185gr SWC 45 bullets clean the black lube off the bullet and tumble lube with 45-45-10? If so, how is that working out for you? I have come into possession of 8,000 of them. The last time I used them, they leaded the barrel of my 45 so bad that I couldn't even see the rifling after 250 rounds, so it has been years since I used them and I am thinking that doing this might work out better. I am using 4.0gr BE.

Have you tried tumble lube on top of the old lube? Would be a lot less work.

I tried that with Zero SWCHP bullets and it was a mess.

I've lubed older star 185s with 45-45-10 over the old lube without issue. Easy to use too much

Did you heat the bullets before using the 45-45-10 or tumble lube them while they were still cold? I've been heating them in the oven @200 degrees before lubing them.

I tumbled them cold.. but did warm the 45-45-10 a bit so it flowed well

I've also washed old star 38 HBWC which had the black lube in mineral spirits then used only the 45 lube.

If your bullets come out in a mess you used too much lube
