Revolver grips?
What grips do you guys use on your revolvers? My 686 came with factory rubber/plastic black grips and they just don't work for me. Any recommendations?
Re: Revolver grips?
Yes, They have always been legal. It has only been about 5 years since those wrap around rubber grips the revolver came with were made legal.

Re: Revolver grips?
IMO nothing better than stippled Nill grips.

If you don't want the expense of high falootin' grips, I'd use Pachmyers. I have them on my revolvers, which are K frame 38 & 22. They're a softer rubber and grip your hand well. They have a thinner one and a regular size one. I like the regular size since my hands are large.

Re: Revolver grips?
Rubber grips is what I have and they are very uncomfortable, I guess I will follow Len's advice and get some Altamonts. My 686 has a square butt so unfortunately Nill stippled grips won't fit - and they are XL size, probably too big for me.
Re: Revolver grips?
If you take your time on fleabay you can find Herrett Shooting Star stocks at reasonable prices. All of the Herrett's I have ever owned have fit the frames they were intended for very well and the NOS production grips have sharp checkering. The Shooting Star have a similar shape to the Nill grips but no finger grooves. I like to stipple all the smooth surfaces and then coat with Tung oil for good traction.
I have a collection of other grips I had to add JB Weld or Kwikwood to to take up frame to grip gaps. I have never had to do that with Herretts.

Re: Revolver grips?
Len I found a pair like those but my Herrets don't have the finger grooves and they don't look or feel altered.LenV wrote:https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smith-Wesson-K-L-Frame-Herretts-Shooting-Star-Oversize-Checkered-Grips/123998096778?hash=item1cdedccd8a:g:VUAAAOSwvMBd5qV9

Re: Revolver grips?
Are the Nill and Herrett grips a standard size, or do they come in S, M, L like Rink grips?

Here is link to previous tread on the same topic - https://www.bullseyeforum.net/t14031-a-little-help-identifying-grips.
At the time the seller Siampride was selling an awesome grips with checkering on the back. I can attest, that grips are very good fit for my hand, which is rather closer to standard size. Unfortunately named seller no longer has this item listed. However there are several other sellers from Thailand offering similar items, albeit I have not seen any with checkering on backstrap. Here is link to one example - https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Wood-checkered-grips-for-S-W-Revolvers-K-L-Frame-Square-Round-Butt/254624533060?hash=item3b48ce0a44:g:YHgAAOSwBuVe5NkL
Also, my experience with Thai seller was nothing but positive.

Re: Revolver grips?
I was thinking about this very subject today. I went back to the Thailand thread and that grip style looks very interesting to me. I have contacted the maker to ask a few questions. Those who have ordered from Thailand, do you still like the grips? I love the checkered backstrap and how thin they look to be. I'm considering the exact same style that Len posted about in the Thailand topic.
Re: Revolver grips?
IN 25+ YEARS OF PPC SHOOTING I'VE TRIED ABOUT ALL THE GRIPS. BUT PUTTING NILLS ON AT 5 REVOLVERS FOR THE N.P.S.C. WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION. I HAVE GONE FULL CIRCLE AND ARE USING THE BELOW GRIPS AGAIN .BILL DAVIS WAS A CUSTOM BUILDER OF PPC GUNS AND HE MADE THESES GRIPS FOR THEM. THEY ARE ABOUT PERFECT. THEY ALLOW THE HAND TO RIDE HIGH ON THE BACKSTRAP. THE SMALL INDENT BELOW THE TRIGGER GUARD GREATLY AIDS IN TRIGGER FINGER PLACEMENT. BEST OF ALL FOR US BULLSEYE SHOOTERS SHOOTING SINGLE ACTION. THEY ARE ABOUT THE EASIEST TO COCK THE HAMMER WITHOUT SHIFTING THE GRIP. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED . JP

Re: Revolver grips?
I looked at those Bill Davis grips. For $25, I'm willing to try them but black color is sold out leaving only green, orange and pink (strange options). I will wait for black to be available.

I checked them out this morning too, and am not interested in green, orange or pink either!

Re: Revolver grips?
KSD from Turkey makes a nice grip also. I ordered a grip from Ebay Canada, it came all the way from Turkey in less than a week. One of the grips I ordered I mistakenly ordered round but and E-mailed them telling them I ordered the wrong one. They said no problem but the round butt was already shipped and they would send me a square butt. Got both grips within a week.
