Irons for my wad gun
This is just musings right now but if I wanted to convert my wad gun into a ball gun could I just replace the RRA rib with a rib that has irons on it? It’s a RO that the rear and front sight were removed.
Again, just some wondering

Yep! I think any metallic sight is approved with the exception of extended ones. There might be a rule about an adjustable front sight but I can’t remember

Actually probably not. It didn't come from the factory that way and that rail adds weight. I will get the current regs and double check. The rules seem to change every year.

I’m not thinking CMP. I’m thinking instead of a dot. I’ve seen those during NRA shooting these long looking irons.

Rule 4.1.2 describes allowable service pistol modifications. https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/2020PistolRules.pdf

the title of the thread states: "....to ball gun". is that not a service pistol, even though no one shoot ball ammo anymore?

Hey be careful before you buy an extended Bomar Rib sight! Joe I think it’s not allowed anymore.lablover wrote:I’m not thinking CMP. I’m thinking instead of a dot. I’ve seen those during NRA shooting these long looking irons.

Not for cmp eic! In place of a dot. For NRA OR NEW CMP PRECISION PISTOL.

To me a ball gun implies a service pistol. A bomar rib is what existed on wad guns before dots. CMP rule 4.2.1describes Match Pistol rules

Joe I feel you are asking if you can just change the rib you have for a rib with metallic sights to use in EIC to leg out! Is this your question? If so yes you can like I first responded! Make sure it has a 4lbs trigger and you should be good to go. You will need to stock up on 185 grain Zero JHP’s because lead isn’t allowed

James, you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. All the exclamation points won't change that either.

Re: Irons for my wad gun
Who knew this would go south so fast..sorry
What I was curious about was removing the dot and using irons only on a wad gun. Again, just curious. In a perfect world I could use it for both NRA and EIC but don’t think it’s possible with a rib with irons integrated. And, that’s fine. With our ranges being locked down I’ve been using AP in the basement and am finding I’m shooting better with irons right now.
Again, guys, with all the crap going on in the world let’s not start attacking one another. Hensler, from what you are saying I could have a rib with irons on it and use for EIC..I was under the impression I couldn’t. Robert, he doesn’t have a clue? Bit harsh? Sorry, former Marine will ALWAYS come to another former Marine defense....everyone chill.

Re: Irons for my wad gun
OK, Joe does NOT want a true, what most of us know as a ball gun. He used the term "ball gun" meaning a 45 without a dot sight not an EIC legal gun. I'm not a slide mount guy but I believe Rock River made their mount with the same hole spacing as the old Bomar rib with Irons. You are simply wanting to get in your Delorean and go back to the original way. An extended front sight is legal in regular NRA Bullseye and was fairly common at one time. I'm not looking at the CMP rule book but im pretty sure no rib of any kind is allowed in EIC matches.

Re: Irons for my wad gun
Joe if they consider a rib as a external modification than it is not allowed.

Re: Irons for my wad gun
Joe,
Like you, I’ve been shooting air pistol enough to become really comfortable with irons. I replaced the Rock River scope rib on my KC wadgun with a Bomar. It my understanding that Bomar were made with two different screw hole patterns. Make sure you find one with the front hole 1 inch back. Another way to go is Rock Rivers combo rib. It’s made of steel and quite heavy. If you decide to use your dot sight on it you’ll probably need to change to a lighter recoil spring.
See the front sight!
