Hammerli 207
I have just purchased a Hammerli 207 (Hammerli International American Model).
I am hoping this will be better than my Ruger Mark II Government Target.
Any suggestions on how best to mount a red dot sight to it?
Any suggestions on spare parts to stock up on and where to get them?
And, generally, any thoughts on this pistol?
Thanks and best,
Jay

Re: Hammerli 207
Let me try asking a more specific question.
What is the best way to mount an Ultradot Matchdot II on a Hammerli 207?
It looks like one of the BME mounts might fit. I have a call into them to ask.
Or am I better off drilling and tapping so the Ultradot sits lower and closer to the bore?
Thanks for any help!

I believe the Madore 208 mount for sale on this site will fit.

If the compensator is attached to the under barrel weight, you just loosen the two setscrews on the weight and slide the entire works off the front.
An alternative is the BME mount that replaces the rear sight bridge. Easy on-and-off swap. He makes them for the Aimpoint H1, Burris FF3 (and the others with the same mounting hole pattern) and the Docter Dots. Google "bme scope mounts" for a website.
Oops, spares:
Larrysguns.com (via redfeather or whatever it's called). Some 208 parts will carry over, but many will not. Take care of it as spares are unobtanium, getting getting fewer as the years go by.

The compensator is not attached to the under barrel weight. The weight cones off easily. The compensator, not so much.
I just ordered some spare parts from Larry’s.

Re: Hammerli 207
I will attempt to answer my own question.
The compensator comes off. There is a set screw underneath. Remove that. On the front of the compensator is a nut. It fits a coin. I used a penny. Unscrew the nut. I had to use a pliers on the coin to get leverage. The compensator then unscrews. Again, a pliers, wrapped in something, was needed to get it going.
The compensator was filled with lead. I don't think it had ever been removed. I was able to get most of the lead out by scraping and by soaking in Hoppes 9.
Reverse process to re-install compensator.
The Madore mount does not fit over the front sight on the 207, even with the compensator removed.

Re: Hammerli 207
Congratulations on buying a great pistol. I have been trying to get a BME Mount for the last 2 years and John does not have them in stock. A Knapp mount which is built on the barrel weight may work for you.
I would suggest against drilling the barrel for mounting the red dot.
Spares are available in Europe but you would have import restrictions.
Check on the import regulations if you can import spare firing pins, sear and some critical parts.
