Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
First topic message reminder :
https://bullseyematch.app
Over the past few years, and with the help of my team and others, I've developed a new app to run the audio and timing for our bullseye matches, as well as other scoring and training functions. With the pandemic situation, as well as the recent non-availability of other apps, I feel it's time to do my part to help promote our sport.
So I'm releasing Bullseye Match, a free app which runs on Android, iOS and Windows. It looks and runs nearly identically on all three, with only small feature differences depending on platform. I truly hope everyone can run it, and enjoy it.
As of today, the Android, iOS and Windows versions are up and available on the app stores, in all markets worldwide.
Click: Links to store downloads for all platforms
Feel free to discuss here! I'm looking forward to hear what you all have to say about it, and suggest for its future.
The web page has a lot more information, including usage guide, privacy policy, history and device/OS requirements etc. Here's the pitch from bullseyematch.app

The web page has a lot more information, including usage guide, privacy policy, history and device/OS requirements etc. Here's the pitch from bullseyematch.app
Bullseye Match performs the range officer operations for a course of Precision Pistol. It plays Prep, Slow fire, Timed and Rapid fire range calls for a "300" Gallery or full "600" or "900" Aggregate relay. It is designed to be simple and intuitive for shooters. It can be used for training, timing, or to run an entire match.
Tapping the target plays each string, and the match moves forward automatically. The calls play with regulation timing, followed by the start signal. It counts down the time, plays the stop signal and closing calls, then advances to the next round. If you finish early, tap the target to finish or cancel the round. Another tap begins the next relay, until all stages are fired.
Buttons indicating the upcoming round can be used to skip, replay or change the sequence manually. The buttons will slide to display the match clearly and make selection easy. Timer functions are available for self-timing, drills, and match preparation.
The app also provides a scoring calculator for B2, B3, B6, B8 and B16 targets, with ring scores, X count and Alibi corrections. It can capture photographs of scored targets, watermarking them with the date, time and any scoring information.
All types of audio are supported, including bluetooth, and mixed with any other streams, so it can be used while listening to other audio, if desired. Selfie-type clickers for remote control work too, great for use in club matches!
Target turning can also be controlled from the app. The PTTC Personal Target Turning Controller from Freedom Technologies is supported, initially.
And:
Bullseye Match is FREE and without ads.
We hope you enjoy using it, which was developed with the team at Riverside Gun Club. The author enjoys sharing it with the bullseye community everywhere. Please use it to support bullseye shooting activities!

Good Idea.-TT- wrote:I've opted for simplicity
EIC is the same as regular bullseye pistol. I don't think it's worth the trouble to have a special version just for 22 EIC which starts at the low ready position. The RO can make announcements before, the actual commands are the same as any other NMC.-TT- wrote:Scripting for EIC, ISSF, rifle, etc are possible but
I think ISSF pistol would be a good addition (or separate app) but in the US it is more of a niche than Bullseye so I understand.
I don't think it makes sense to combine pistol and rifle in to a single app, but I prefer a tool that does one thing well rather than a more complex multi-tool.

I looked into this some more - it appears to be a common issue for newly-listed apps. Google's play store search can take up to a week to "analyze" an app description. I guess this includes the name of the app itself. :?
The app bundle name includes "bullseyematch" (no space), and in the meantime that's the only way search will find it.

LOVE the app, used it for the first time today.
You should charge for this, I'd be happy to pay.
iPhone 12, Version 1.0 Build 101, IOS 14.1
I am fubared in the section to take photos of targets. Mine shows
Rapid B3
Slow B2
Timed B3
but when I press the slow, it won't recognize the B2 target.

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
I'm not looking for revenue, so enjoy the free cost Maybe later I'll take beer money or help me pay the $100/yr Apple developer tax they charge me, not to mention having to buy their stuff just to build the app. The other stores cost me $0.
Anyway I don't understand "recognize the B2 target". All the app does is bring up the camera so you can take a picture. It then crops it a bit, watermarks it with the session info, and saves it for you. Can you be more specific what's happening that you don't expect?
The order of the targets in the list is rearranged depending on what match you ran last, btw. You can scroll around and choose any one you like however.

Whoa that's a new one. Does this happen if you select the Timed or Rapid items in the list?

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
The photo results are all jumbled for me.
In the photo, I choose the SLOW fire target, and it asks for X count. Works and records and watermarks, but records it as a Timed Fire targer
Choosing Timed Fire, it asks for no X, and gives the Array Error
Choosing Rapid Fire, it asks for no X, and gives the Array Error
I also might suggest removing the 100 as the default score, I mean, we all have to backsapce that one out, don't we?

Reason it pastes-in a score is because it's not possible to give much help in the popup dialog. And the numeric entry is really limited in characters allowed by the OS. So I'm trying to be helpful (always dangerous!).
For B2 slow it's just a number, but for a target with an X-count, the syntax is a decimal point, e.g. 99.5 for a 99 with 5X. It'll accept other delimiters but since there's no "X" on the keyboard, it's confusing otherwise.
I wish I could add gray text that isn't actually there, but that would take a bunch of code. Ok, I'll put your comment on a wish list...

Ok, I can reproduce it. The scrambling happens if you shoot a complete match, then take the photo at the end. If you take the photos earlier, it's normal.
Here's a quick'n'dirty workaround:
- Go into Settings and change the match to a different total (300 to 600, whatever)
- Go back to the main screen, display will reset to new match
- Go back into Settings and change the match back to original
- Go back to main screen and take the photos.
Sorry about this - shoulda caught it myself! Hey, the app didn't crash!
Fenton and I are looking into the partial turning thing reported earlier too.

Disregard below....I rebooted the iPhone and reconnected to remote. It is working now, something must have hung up.
TT,
Tried using a selfie type remote control with the app today, but all it will do is control the Volume Up indicator. I enabled the RC in the Settings menu and connected to iPhone via bluetooth.
If I open the camera app, I can use the remote to take pictures, so the BT connection is fine. I do see the RC symbol on the right side of the app screen.

What type of phone, and what type/brand of clicker? Also, are you pressing it once, or more than once?

Interesting. Here's one possible explanation: Apple/iOS does not allow an app to monitor the input from a device directly, so selfie-type apps must listen for volume changes. If the volume is all the way up, there are none! Developers are not thrilled with this, but Apple provides no other options.
My app attempts to avoid this by keeping the volume less than 100%, but if you switch away, raise the volume, then come back into the app, it's possible there is timing or something that means it stays maxed. I'm pretty sure all selfie apps have this issue, one way or another.
Two suggestions if it happens again:
1) use the side button to lower the volume by one click, or
2) force-quit the app and restart it.
The reason I asked about clicking twice is because the app only triggers if you press once. If you click repeatedly, it assumes you're raising the volume and ignores it. Or, if you click once, then click again just after it starts playing, it ignores the second press. This is really important if you have a flaky clicker! Just ask Arny.
OBTW - Android doesn't have this issue, since the app monitors the clicker directly.

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
All is well now....with the iPhone 8 reboot, the remote works with one click as it’s supposed to. The edging issue seems to be resolved also as it’s now edging to 90*. I do think the time to reface at string end needs to be a little longer, maybe 3 seconds instead of one.
Thanks to you and Fenton for looking into and addressing the issues, perceived or otherwise!

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
Fenton is doing more testing and we'll settle on a solution. I'm leaning toward a 5-second (ish) pause when finishing a regular string, since there's no super incredible rush to start the next one. The trickier one is how long to pause when running the drill, since the PTTC needs to cycle but without adding too much delay.
I'll push an update soon, in the meantime, glad it's working for you!

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
Thanks for developing the app! I have one of Fenton's turners and it synced up nicely with the app and is working well. My uses for it are dry fire practice in the garage and also for live fire practice when away from my local club. For these practice purposes the drills will be most useful to me as will picking a choosing a standard slow, timed, or rapid. The option to skip the line commands is a real nice and time saving feature when practicing. I've used other apps and so far this one is my favorite. I haven't tried the target scoring yet but will soon.
In terms of suggestions: If practical, it would be nice to build in a feature to select a time lag between drill intervals. For example, when doing a 2 second drill it would be useful to be able to select a lag after a cycle is completed. With a delay it would be: edge, face 2 sec, edge, delay - then back to edge. My work around is to let it go and just shoot every other cycle.
Again, thank you and your team for pulling this together. What a great contribution!

Yes, I've had one other request for something like that. With a second setting (drill time and also drill interval) things might get a little confusing or crowded, so I'm thinking through how to present them.
What range of delay? More than five seconds? Ten? Is it a setting you'd want to change often, or set-and-forget?

I would find the following helpful for the drills I use:
Have a course of fire "Sustained Pistol Drill" or something like that. Commands should start with "For your next string of 5 rounds, load..."
Setting #1: Time Between Strings (0-60 seconds)
Setting #2: Face Time (1-20 seconds)
Setting #3: Number of repetitions (0-10, 0 = infinite) - Repeat this many times then stop
Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
I've pushed an update to version 1.1 to all three app stores. The Google store version is currently available, I expect the others to appear soon-ish.
It addresses the issues reported for target photography and adds a small accommodation for target turning. Nothing major. Considering the other suggestions, in the meantime.

Bullseye Match 1.1 (build 102)
Fixes:
Added time for turning/resetting targets at end of strings
Corrected target photographing glitches
Enhancements:
Simplified manual scoring process for target photos

I think a delay of 5 sec would be enough since the shot drills would be limited to individuals practicing. I can also see how things could get crowded on the app so perhaps a place for it to go would be under Settings > Sounds and controls > New section for "Delay between Shot Drills" > on/off toggle for 5 seconds or a selection of either 0, 5, or 10 sec.
The app is awesome and your work is much appreciated.

5 seconds is in the ballpark for sure. But I don't care for using settings for this, it's too clunky and hidden, too many taps basically. My philosophy is to be able to tap a function and get back to shooting.
Or, some buttons and knobs/sliders on the main screen, but again, that means extra taps...
Ok, I've got a new idea...

Re: Bullseye Match - free app for Android, iOS and Windows
TT, I downloaded the app for my Android it was on Google store and I used it today. I don't use turning targets or the remote usage. It's great using the calculator then taking picture of the targets. I did it on a 600 match for myself, packed up and came home, I opened up the app and couldn't find my scores or photos of the targets anywhere on my phone.
Do they disappear after I turn my phone back on? I'd like to store them so I can analyse them later, but don't know how. Thank you for any help, this is a great app.
