Another Aimpoint 30mm Option, Patrol Pro
I just happened to have an Aimpoint Patrol Pro on a 22lr AR style rifle but wasn't being used. I stripped the mount, caps and turret covers off. Looking though it side by side with my 9000SC the dot, brightness control and viewable objective is the same. The 9000SC is my favorite dot but can be too heavy especially if you upgrade the half ass stock rings.
Here's some weights for comparison:
Aimpoint 9000SC stripped of rubber ends and turret covers with battery: 7.03oz
Aimpoint Patrol Pro stripped of base, caps and turret covers with battery: 6.60oz
Stock Aimpoint rings: 2.4oz
TAC Vector aluminum rings with steel cross bolt and nut: 3.7oz I went to these rings after relatively easily stripping the stock rings.I use these on my 45 slide mount 1911.
Weaver Tactical 48355 Low 30mm 6 hole rings with steel cross bolt and nut. 1.85oz per ring, only one used for Patrol Pro.
So my 9000SC with my preferred rings weighs 10.73oz, the Patrol Pro shown with one Weaver ring weighs 8.45oz. Not bad considering it has the exact same dot quality. This gets the weight into the ballpark of other 30mm rings like the Matchdot2 and Sightron S30. I'm hoping to make this work on a 1911/38sp Jon is finishing for me, the 9000SC is definitely too heavy.

TRY THE AIMPOINT LOW MOUNT RING. REALLY LOW ON THE SLIDE. NEVER MOVES OR COMES LOOSE. JP

This Weaver ring only leaves about 1/8" under the dot and it's got a deeper footprint with 6 screws holding the top half. Aimpoint rings have not impressed me up to this point.
