Distinguished Revolver bullets---can I use these?
First topic message reminder :
O-kay, here we go....
I cast my own bullets, and have done so for years. My favorite load is the 200 grain LSWC HG 68 design. Extremely accurate when used with 3.5 of Clays, and 3.8 for the long line.
So, I have decided to go for Distinguished Revolver. I am very aware of the limitations on ammunition--158 gr. LSWC or LRN.
I looked, and looked, and found Lyman molds on Amazon.com. I ordered a 4 cavity block. They came today...and here they are...

Here is my question...are these bullets OK for Distinguished Revolver, used as LSWC? Or, do I have to send them back and get a true round nose design?
Please let me know....the first registered match is coming up in June, and I need to get ready!

I referred the issue of rule 3.1.4.e to the NRA asking if the elimination was intentional.

BE Mike wrote:I can't agree with your conclusion. The whole revolver match reasoning was to be a throw back to the old days of revolver shooting, when the .38 Spl ruled and these were the bullet designs in popular use. To water down these rules would kill the spirit of the original intent.
Im a new guy here, but this concept of "Spirit of the the rules" in my mind doesn't exist. As an Engineer there is no gray area, you comply with the rule or you dont. The INTENT of the rule is meaningless as you can debate that as a subjective element. Only objective measureable elements matter. Here we were given 2 bullet styles to shoot, we don't need to care why they are there, we must merely comply with the written rule....

Though the NRA rules dated May 2012 were handed out at Perry this year, there is a newer 1 April 2013 (no joke) rule book available on-line. The new rule book is also silent on ammunition requirements for DR. I queried the NRA again on 4 August regarding the apparent oversight of dropping the ammunition standards. No answer yet. It may be helpful for other forum participants with a by-name relationship with the NRA hierarchy to ask the question.

Clearly they didn't have a copy editor or lawyer read all the changes in the rules carefully.

Re: Distinguished Revolver bullets---can I use these?
I received a message back from the NRA on this:
Thanks for contacting us, it appears the rulebook was mis-printed & the (6) six definitions were left out, this will be corrected, nothing has changed in the NRA Conventional Pistol Rule 3.1.4 Ammunition requirement. The application paperwork lists the current rule including the (6) six definitions.
Definition (e) is clear – Ammunition – Any safe .38 caliber ammunition using the 158 grain round nose or semi-wadcutter bullet only.
So, the match directors' application to conduct a DR match requires that he conduct the match so all the shooters use the 158 RN or SWC.
The match directors will likely post a bulletin at DR matches until the rulebooks are corrected.
Therefore, even though the rules for competitors do not have the rule in place, no match director will hold the match without those omitted sub paragraphs.
