Ultradot rings Empty Ultradot rings

Post by faraim Sat May 29, 2021 7:01 pm

I just bought my first Ultradot. I can use the included rings or some Weaver rings I have. I seem to remember folks aren't happy with the Ultradot rings. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have used both with good results. I liked the weaver rings (in my case #48365) on my nelson conversion as it was easier to pull the dot to shoot irons. On a 45, I don't think it matters as much if installed correctly.

I've got 5k rds, more or less, thru my Les Baer with the Ultradot rings on a MD-2. They've been removed and replaced once for a leg match. They've never moved or come loose. The whole thing even came right back to zero after replacing the sight, and the base.

But if you've got a need to easily remove the sight, then standard style rings would be a better choice.

UltraDot rings will work, but I took the advice of Mr. Knapp who made the Hammerli 208s scope mounts and went with Weaver. I've never regretted it.

Thanks folks, since I have no iron sights under the rail, I'll try the Ultradot rings. They are definitely more sleek. If that's a term that can be used with a rail equipped 1911!

I found the Ultradot rings functional mostly but cheaply made. My real problem with them was having to take both rings off completely to get the scope off for cleaning the gun. I also found them a pain to get evenly tightened. I ended up with these rings off Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DP24NMG/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_glt_fabc_399CE9B6ZTFND8856VGW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Inexpensive and robust. I just take off the top half of the rings when removing the scope for cleaning.

Burris Z rings

I have Ultradot rings on most of my pistols, but when the screw rings or base screws work loose, and they all do, been replacing the Ultradot rings with Burris Z rings. I prefer having a ring that I can remove from the base and not have to re zero the scope. Once you loosen Ultradot rings, for example to move the scope forward, the whole scope rotates, slides, gets out of position.

I prefer the Weaver rings but had issues with them on my slide mounted 45. The Ultradot rings work just fine there.
