Lightened Hammer on Colt 1911
I read on the "Hallock's .45 AUTO Handbook" page 147/148 Lighted Hammers, that the only lightened hammer worth is by illuminating metal at the bottom of the hammer face the opening of the slideis made easier as the leverageagainst the hammeris moved upward.. Any one try this?

Old school gunsmithing. Really not necessary with availability of lighter mainsprings than when Hallock wrote the book. There were a few gunsmiths who routinely did this on their builds. I’ve never found it necessary to get a pistol to function. It also allows the pistol to unlock from battery sooner which I believe is detrimental to a quality bullseye pistol build.
