Scope Mounting on Gun box
I find myself needing to convert a Pelican case into a gun box for a friend. I would like to do a second one for myself. The Gil Hebard scope mounts seem to be impossible to find. Anyone have either a source or a work around, i.e. a different mounting system?
If anyone has one recovered from a trashed gun box, I would be interested in buying.

I've seen a couple of 'travel cases' fitted with a Sinclair type mount. I don't know if they are adapted from the Brownells item or there's another source but they seem usable.

Re: Scope Mounting on Gun box
Most of the “Pelican” type of cases don’t lend themselves to a Gil Hebard mount. But they do have places to mount an adaptor for a “Rifle” style scope rod system.
Or you could use this gizmo https://www.sinclairintl.com/optics/spotting-scopes/sinclair-bench-mount-scope-stand-prod37923.aspx
IMO, a shooting box makes a lousy scope stand. They’re bulky and heavy. And clamping guns vertically for transport makes almost no sense at all.

Also keep eye out on ebay for old gun boxes with scope mounts. Sometime the scopes and mounts are worth more than the box......
And yes, the Hebard mount can be used just fine on a Pelican case.

Re: Scope Mounting on Gun box
I wanted a travel case with an integral scope stand so that I could transport all my guns in one box safely by air to the "OH-IN Tour" this past summer. This is what I came up with. I purposely decided not to include space for the scope within the case. I successfully used this for the entire tour of four events in ALL weathers! But I would change it slightly if I need to make another fly/rent tour in future (hopefully never again!). I would move the scope mount to the back left corner, leaving space to allow the case lid to be opened regardless of scope position. I would also make better provision for a very large folding brass screen - that was a big problem for me at several events. The only other issue was that the stand got so wet at Canton on Sunday that the hardwood "tenon" swelled slightly and I had a hell of time getting it out of the Aluminum "mortice" - thank you AMU armorer for lending me tools to get the damn thing out!
Please note that it is not good form to build a box with guns facing back towards the bench - that is a no-no!

I hope that only refers to the config, and not to your intentions of returning to the great state of Ohio.

Re: Scope Mounting on Gun box
Yes, of course! I loved all of the matches (well maybe not the wet Sunday at Canton!!) and hope to continue to attend for as long as I'm allowed into the USA and have still got my marbles!
But the fly/rent/hotel thing did not suit me (and was bloody expensive!). I have now bought a good sized RV and am about to go "van life". That, and other lifestyle factors, has precipitated "ruthless downsizing" including the sale of many guns that I deemed to be non-essential. I've got totally out of 9mm. Still got a set of 32ACP, but am focusing on the 45 for all non-22 matches. Still got my trusty pair of K frames for the revolver matches.
I will keep this travel box just in case, but hope that I do not need to fly to any future events.

That's just an Ohio cooler. You were overheating. My hometown was just looking out for your well-being.

Well, no guarantees on that.

Definitely no guarantees on that.
Good-natured teasing and snark aside, bullseye gear when flying is definitely a lot different than bullseye gear when driving. I can't imagine how the highpower shooters from CA do it.
