Better sights on a 1911
I shoot a lot of air pistol, and I particularly enjoy the sights on my Morini 200. I like the fact that the front post appears about the same width as the black bull, and that the rear notch is adjustable in both width and depth. Are their sights out there that align more closely with these principals that work in the standard sight cuts found on 1911's? Is durability a major reason we haven't seen sights with such adjustability? Why are 1911 front sights so narrow? It seems better sights could be particularly advantageous in service pistol, given a lack of rules around what constitutes "adjustable sights"...
Hoping for an enlightening conversation.

Re: Better sights on a 1911
Making a wider front sight wouldn't be a big deal.
Making a rear sight that is adjustable for notch width and depth would require some small, reasonably accurate parts. Could be done but probably not a very big market to justify the time spent.
Might be easier to try and adapt a sight from a gun that already has those features.

Re: Better sights on a 1911
Originally the 1911 front sight was staked into the slide.
A larger sight, either height or width, increased the weight and made them more likely to shoot loose.
A higher front sight was needed if the rear adjustable was not mounted low.
That required milling the rear of the slide to get the rear sight lower.
Many of the newer Colts (and others) use a dovetail mounted type front sight.
Dawson has those available in different heights and widths.
Dawson Precision Novak Cut Black Front Sights
Wilson Combat makes an adjustable rear sight that has rear blades in two widths.
It does use a different sight cut into the slide compared to a Bomar type. http://www.wilsoncombat.com/press/428%20Sight%20Cut.pdf

I've seen Marvel Conversions adapted to use sights from high end euro air pistols. Very awesome! Being mounted on a non reciprocating rail obviously has little affect on longevity. Mounting on a 45 slide possible would be fine.

I had a discussion with Warren Potter about this a long time ago. He thought the Steyr LP10 rear sight would be a good choice and would probably survive riding on a 1911 slide. I never took it any further, but it's been floating around the back of my mind for more than a decade.

Does anyone have a source for replacement air pistol rear sights?

For Styer rear sights I would ask: http://www.pilkguns.com/
For Morini you might want to reach out to David. He has started importing Morini stuff.:https://sportshootingdepot.com/
