Electronic Scorebook updated 11-4-2013
I don't like writing down my scores while at the match, I find it too distracting. I take pictures of targets and of my score cards and enter into my scorebook later. I do take notes on sight changes or anything else important that I can't take a picture of.
Attached is an Excel file that I just put together for manually entering my scores from the pictures I take of my scorecards. I couldn't find one I liked this one allows you to enter and x and it will be accounted for properly. The file isn't protected so feel free to make changes but be careful of wiping out the formulas.
Enjoy
Dave

Good information. Just be sure that you are not taking them with a cell phone, as electronic devices aren't allowed on the range, during a match. See rule 3.20.

I use my iPhone to take pics of scorecards and sometimes targets. The only place where I have been specifically told not to is at Camp Perry when I was going to use it as a timer. I am not texting or making calls.

3.20 Ear Protection -
All competitors and other personnel in the immediate vicinity of the range complex are urged to wear hearing protection devices. Only sound reducing devices may be worn. Radios, tape recorders or any type sound producing or communication system is prohibited forward of the ready line after the preparation period has started. “Match sponsors (and/or ranges) may require ear protection”
I took extra notice of the phrase "after the preparation period has started". I interpret that to mean that from the time of the command "cease fire" to the command "the line is safe you may open your boxes" then "any sound producing or communication system" is no longer prohibited forward of the ready line and we are able to photograph targets or scorecards until the next match is to begin.
I think that it is important to note that the primary purpose of 3.20 is for "hearing protection" and the spirit of 3.20 is not really about cameras, or cell phones. The rule as it is now dates back for a long time and I think it may have been intended to prevent shooters from receiving audio coaching or some other audio cues in their headsets while shooting.
Of course different match directors/officials may direct differently, but in my experience of smaller local matches, there are typically longer breaks and more leeway given for people to use technology for their record keeping.
Thanks for the spreadsheet!

There is no rule prohibiting texting or talking on a cell phone while a competitor is shooting.

A phone is a "communication system"

That was my point in citing out Rule 3.20, but I'm a little confused. My statement regarding texting and talking on cell phones was meant to point out that cell phones aren't specifically mentioned in the rules. Are you agreeing that cell phones are prohibited from use during matches or not?

I agree that there is no specific rule prohibiting talking or texting during a match because they are not even allowed forward of the ready line once the prep period has started.
I am saying that I break that rule at every match but I don't do it in an obnoxious or flagrant manner. It is a violation nevertheless.

If your phone is set on airplane mode, it is not a communication system.
International rules prohibit electronic devices, but they selectively enforce that one too. I was told I could not read my kindle during breaks, but the girl next to me was using her cell phone as a timer, and apparently, that was fine.
I have seen Zins taking pictures of targets with his cell phone. When they bust him for it, I will believe they are serious.
