Smith mod 14-4 trigger
I am looking for a gunsmith in northern IN. Trigger is around 1lb need 2 1/2. I have changed springs. This is a new gun to me so no history.

Unusual, maybe replace a too short strain screw.
Used the heavier trigger rebound spring?

Did replace spring with a heavier one. When cocked light pressure on back of hammer will make hammer fall.

You can easily correct a push-off. Follow this video. Tried and tested. Easy to do with any stone. I used knife whetstone with perfect success. Remember that any hammer or trigger micro engagement ignition part on SW can be stoned only on one side to retain hardness on the other supporting side and ensure no premature wear, as these parts are surface hardened only. Stone one side only!!!

Jim, not necessarily. My example was a new looking original coating and everything. I recon that there are some tolerance differences (gun pin distances and components) that may yield these issues even in new set.
