Hammerli 215 vs 208
I have the opportunity to purchase a H208 & the H215 ( both look & feel identical ) - except that the 208 seems to be finished better.
Just curious about the differences between the 2 bullseye pistols.
What are the numbers (208 & 215 ) mean? Any significant?
I read that the suffix "S" would mean "safety" when describing the models 208S & 215S.
Then, we have the Hammerli "International" -which doesn't have any "number" attached to the model - so are the International the same as the "208"?
Not much information could be found on-line, so if any of you could help would be much educational..

215 and 208 are Identical and your correct the finish is better on the 208. That is the difference. the 215 was less cost due to the outer finish and why they are different at the front sight. I wanted to by a 208 from the Osborn brothers at Camp Perry but they were sold out and only had a 215. They explained the difference. Later I purchased a 208S both have given excellent service. S model has an improved trigger.
When I talked to Hammerli rep at Perry I was told the trigger assembly of the older and newer S models hammer and sear are interchangeable but all the parts must be changed as a set. I'm not sure about the trigger since I didn't ask about it.

Larry Carter used to shoot a Hammerli 215 with a 2 stage trigger. If I'm not mistaken, he said that some 215's come with a single stage trigger.

“S” is two stage trigger in both models, not safety. 215 versions are not as refined in the machining/finish department. All are equally accurate.

When talking to Hammerli rep. at Perry I was told the hammer and sear were changed but they will fit the pre S models. The change was made to lower pressure on the hammer notch and sear face to lower wear. Been quite a while ago. I then purchased the needed parts to put in my 215 but old trigger remained the same.

Only place I know is Red Feather Outfitters in Ohio. They purchased the inventory from Larry's Guns. Run by Jim Henderson a former AMU 2670+ shooter and Camp Perry winner of many different matches. I'm sure he can help you find a good smith.
