New ammo for S&W Model 52, coming very soon.
First topic message reminder :
I had a long discussion with Curtis Shipley at Georgia Arms earlier today. They are currently manufacturing wadcutter ammo specifically for the S&W Model 52. They were able to obtain a large quantity of small pistol primers, making this possible, with a lot more on the way. George shoots this ammo in his own Model 52. He told me the new ammo would be similar to the Federal wadcutters we were all able to shoot what now feels like a lifetime ago.
I told Curtis I would post this information here in the Bullseye forum.
I can't find the information yet on their website www.georgia-arms.com .....from what Curtis told me, manufacturing is now in process. He told me he would provide all the information to the person who handles incoming calls, Dee, so hopefully early this coming week we will all be able to place orders. The direct phone line is 770-459-5117.
This came about because a friend of mine strongly recommended my trying the regular ammo made by Georgia Arms for revolvers. One thing led to another, and I ended up talking to Curtis.
I hope you all find this information useful.

I have seen ammo packaged like that for sale at gun shows for many years. Most people who buy this ammo, especially reloads, are not reloaders themselves so they just shoot them and leave the brass and boxes laying. This reduces cost to the manufacturer and waste in the trash.
I kinda like following those shooters so I pick up their once fired brass and sometimes get boxes too.

The price looks fine in today's market, but I am not a fan of Bagged Ammo. I owned a commercial reloading operation in the 70s and early 80s and have been reloading since the 60s. All my ammo was and is now always boxed. Might not matter for Bullseye, but as a 1,000 Yard Bench Rest Shooter, I am anal about my ammo.

I've been shooting this for a while. It's the best I've ever used. I took one apart and it looks like WST, 3grs. Starline brass. Wadcutter looks like a Zero HBWC. I've tried to duplicate it but can't get the same results. I just use it for 50yds. My loads are fine for 25yds.

I once bought a half dozen tins of mid tier air pistol pellets off a forum member a few years ago. They arrived packed like crap just flopping around a box with almost no packing. They got shipped back at his expense. Like I'm gonna try my absolute best to hit a X ring smaller than a pencil eraser with some pellets that have played the Hokey Pokey half way across the country.rkittine wrote:The price looks fine in today's market, but I am not a fan of Bagged Ammo. Not sure what to think. Ordered two bags to try. Shot five rounds rested at 25 yards with my 52 and was 10 ring. Shot five rounds of my reloads and was five X's.
Did I get the wrong thing? $32.00/bag and the only .38 wadcutters listen on their site.
Bottom line, be sure you are ordering the right thing if there is more than type of .38 wadcutter for $32.00 /bag!

If you wouldn't mind please share your recipe for your reloads.

I ordered 250 rounds of the .38 wadcutter ammo. The cost shipped to California was $144.
California has restrictions on mail order ammunition sales. However, persons with a 03 FFL and a California Certificate of Eligibility (fingerprint supported annual background check) are not prohibited from receiving ammunition shipments.
I will report back upon receipt and testing.

I provided my 03 C&R FFL and California Certificate of Eligability (COE) to Georgia Arms this morning and my ammunition is on the way, tracking number provided.
For other shooters in California the 11% excise tax on ammo that took effect 7/1 does not apply to out of state shipments to holders of a 03 FFL and a COE. Georgia arms will ship to properly credentialed California buyers.
Kudos to Georgia Arms.

I have shot S&B out of my Model 52 and it feels to me to be a bit "hotter" than the old Federal or Winchester loads. It is interesting because the listed velocity is about 700 fps.
