First topic message reminder :
I have not seen any comments on folks using revolvers in BE competition. Not good enough?

Re: Revolvers in Bullseye?
For fun I shot mine (S&W 17-4)in an informal slow fire match today. I had not shot it in a long time did not do well at first but once I got used to it again it is a lot of fun to shoot.

Re: Revolvers in Bullseye?
I shot a 2700 at Long Lake, NY with 3 S&W revolvers a few years ago.
.22, M17
.38, M14
.45, M625
All single action.
It was a hoot!

Re: Revolvers in Bullseye?
50 years ago I shot many CF 900s with my 38 OMM SAO. Lots of fun.
I sold the OMM in the late 70s. Now I have
2 OMM 38
2 OMM 22
1ea. 14-1, 14-2
2 17-? can't remember the dash
1 SW 38/44 Outdoorsman
1 Model 1955
Debating with myself to downsize that list.
It's tough

Re: Revolvers in Bullseye?
I got a S&W 617 10-Shot 22lr revolver figuring it would be a tack driver based on the reviews I've read, but it has been disappointing even with a Matchdot sight. Also it was painful to clean lol

Revolvers in Bullseye
Early in my Bullseye career I attempted to shoot an 8-3/8 S&W K38 Masterpiece in center-fire matches. I purchased a pair of off the shelf Jay Scott target grips and went to work. I shot all phases using single action. It was much more challenging, so after about four or five matches, I returned to my 1911 and forgot about it.
Later on, after meeting Harry Reeves, I decided to get serious and really try using a revolver for Bullseye. I shot both the .22 and center-fire portions of our local winter league using revolvers. I discovered many things, including:
In closing, the revolver is competitive, but the shooter must be more dedicated. If you're serious about trying to use a revolver in Bullseye competition, particularly using single action in TF and RF, I suggest you try it with a Colt prior to making your final conclusion.

- Off the shelf target grips didn't cut it; you needed a custom made one for your hand. Consequently, I ordered three from Herrett, one for a S&W Masterpiece and two for Colt Officer Model Match revolvers.
- Colt Officer Model Match revolvers were significiantly easier to shoot in competition, particularly in sustained fire than Smith and Wesson Masterpieces. I believe you'll find most of the great old timer's used Colts.
- A single action only revolver, while not necessary, helped a bit.
- You need much sustained fire practice.
- A greater appreciation for guys like Harry Reeves and Al Hemming.
