1911 Govt. Seven round Magazines
What is the hot tip on magazines for our older bullseye guns. Short OAL loads, round or flat followers, finish, make, availability etc.
I have a couple of old stainless no name magazines that keep expanding at the mouth and will stick in the well I need to replace.

Always had good luck with metal form round follower in every 1911 I own, including an original gold cup and 60's hardball build.

Wilson 47/47D and Metalform round follower have always been solid performers in my 45acp 1911s.
On Jon Eulette's advice, the Ed Brown mags run 100% in my 38supercomp EIC 1911

I use alot of the older Brownells metalform mags with the round follower. I run 6 lb springs in them.

What mags depend on your ammo & specific firearm
There are three general feed lip designs, GI tapered opening lips generally designed for FMJRN bullets, the sudden-releasing "Wadcutter" sudden release lips, and the "Hybrid" which Colt designed as a cross between the two:

The best advice I have received is to buy one of several designs/makes of magazines, and try them with each type of ammo I shoot. For FMJRN bullets, generally the GI design works.
For 160gr short-nosed .45 SWC bullets, only the Tripp magazines work for me. They have the hybrid lip design:

For 200gr SWC bullets, lots of magazines work, but I typically go with Wilson Combat.
Be aware that lots of magazine brands are actually made by just a few makers. Before testing magazines for feeding, it would be useful to make sure your extractor is properly set up. On just one 1911, I also felt the need to try a magazine release that held the magazine higher in the receiver.

I have McCormick (spelling) magazines, they might be 8 shot mags but they work great in my 1911
