Assuming aluminum rib. Should run with that charge. Guns I work on will run 2.8 BE with that setup. How long is your recoil spring? What is the weight or wire diameter? Is this a new/recent problem?

Hi Jon, I'll have to check on that Spring Diameter and length , Problem started when Rib and Dot was Added

Then the problem is fundamentally too much mass added. For that reason I chose to add a light weight reflex dot on my 52 and S&W 745. No adjustment in springing or load was necessary.
Geeky information to follow….
Reciprocating slides operate as spring-mass pendulums. When the gun is fired the recoil impulse kicks the slide system to the rear. The velocity of the slide is slowed by trying to cock the hammer effectively delaying the opening. In your case the mass increased but the spring-mass operating impulse did not. So you can reduce the recoil spring but you may have to decrease the hammer spring as well.

Number of coils? Disregard any coil touching another.

0.042” is most likely a 12# spring. I would get an uncut 12# and try it. Most 38 specials I work on are grossly undersprung. Should just barely eject brass 90 degrees to you.
If recoil is too harsh cartridges can flip out of magazine feed lips in full recoil jamming the pistol.
I use government length springs in all my long slides. EGW also makes a recoil spring cap for long slides that is specifically for converting/using government springs, but they are heavy.
So get ejection at 90 then see what happens.

If you’re seeking a simplified next step, try removing the dot and function testing. Try factory ammo. Change magazines. Remove as many variables as possible before addressing more invasive solutions. My thought is to experiment with crimp if all else fails. That said, both feed and extraction problems suggest slide mass as others have noted.

Look at the front of your receiver where the slide hits the recoil spring guide rod. Is it nice and flat or uneven/worn looking?
