Sig Sauer 38 Super Barrel
I took the bait on those really inexpensive Sig 38 Super 1911 barrels and bought one. Okay…I bought five.
While they are similar in shape to the ramped 9mm Sig 1911 barrel in a gun I have, they are QUITE different from the design of the ramped 9mm barrels I have on a TISAS and a RIA 9mm 1911.
I had no idea there was that much change in design.
Would it be tied to an Sig 1911 being more if an ‘80’s Series 1911?
I don’t see how it could be made to fit my other 1911’s without MAJOR changing the dimensions if the barrel.

Re: Sig Sauer 38 Super Barrel
Normally there are 2 different ramp designs:
- Wilson/Nowlin - such as that found in my SA Range Officer 9mm (now 38super). This is what the Sig barrels I have seen and used have
- Clark/Para - This has a radiused vertical part behind the link
You cannot put one into a frame cut for the other.

The SIG ramped barrels are near drop-ins for Springfield Range Officer 9mm’s. I have personally done 4 and all have been near perfect fit. Even factory bushings have been good fits.

How well did the 38 Super rim fit in the 9MM Range officer slide? The rim has bound up in the breech face in a couple of my 9MMs
Yea, I know, use Comp Brass. I have a large collection of 38 Super brass and ammo that needs to be used.

I replaced the stock barrel with a sig one in a RIA factory 38 super. It was very close to drop-in and I did minimal fitting. It has performed very well.

I did have to tweak the extractor for 100% feeding. Otherwise everything was fine.

Re: Sig Sauer 38 Super Barrel
I worried about using non comp brass in my RO but it was a lot of worry about nothing. Everything feeds and extracts fine. That said I still worry about Murphy showing up during a match and save the older brass for practice or use with my 40S&W/38 super conversion.
