N310 less expensive than Bullseye
I noticed in recent Natchez and Midway catalogues that Bullseye powder is more expensive than N310. Seemed to me not long ago that N310 was significantly higher. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Prices are crazy and bullseye is hard to find, so often overpriced.
Do you use N310 for 45, if so what load.

I have noticed this trend. Going to dedicate my testing time to getting a back up loads. Typically shoot bullseye, but will work up a n310 load and maybe a titegroup load.

I used titegroup before switching to Bullseye. I used very similar loads. I have N310 but it’s not recommended for 45 although I’m “guessing” is similar to Bullseye.

I noticed this too. Once Alliant announced their 2024 price increase back in December prices went up right away at some suppliers.

I think you're confusing N310 with another powder, it's fine for 45. https://www.vihtavuori.com/powder/n310-handgun-powder/Rush223 wrote:I used titegroup before switching to Bullseye. N310 for 45
I use N310 for BE all the time in 45's. At 3.7gr of N310 behind a 185gr SWC, I get 740fps average. I only shootScottB wrote:I think you're confusing N310 with another powder, it's fine for 45. https://www.vihtavuori.com/powder/n310-handgun-powder/Rush223 wrote:I used titegroup before switching to Bullseye. I use N310 and it's quite popular for 45 as far as I know.Rush223 wrote:I used titegroup before switching to Bullseye. I used very similar loads. I have N310 but it’s not recommended for 45 although I’m “guessing” is similar to Bullseye.

Re: N310 less expensive than Bullseye
N310 is by far better than bullseye in 45 for bullseye use with swaged wadcutters or JHP. Nice that we haven't seen price increases on VV powders like Hodgdon, Alliant, etc.

prices are crazy, but I've been watching the VV powders and some how their prices seem to be going down. Maybe they want a bigger oiece of the pie?

Re: N310 less expensive than Bullseye
Glad I was wrong about using N310 in 45. The VV booklet I have does not list N310 for the 45. I have 4 pounds. Guess I will start working up a load.

Here’s data from the VV website for 45acp. Includes N310. Hope that helps.

Isn't VV 310 somewhat temperature sensitive?

Perhaps somewhat. In extreme temperature changes, I've seen some evidence of this, but no good scientific study to test the theory. So, maybe perhaps.BE Mike wrote:Isn't VV 310 somewhat temperature sensitive?

Re: N310 less expensive than Bullseye
Yes, N310 is sensitive to both temperature and humidity in my experience. As is WST. BE somewhat less so.
But N310 meters very well, recoil impulse is good, highly recommend for use with 185Jhp bullets.
YMMV.

Since I don't shoot outside in the cold much and when shooting outdoors without cover (hello Camp Perry), I keep my rounds covered to help with the temperature sensitivity. I have never really noticed a difference.

I think that some of it may be the dollar vs the euro exchange rate.

Noticed in the latest Natchez mail order catalog that prices are up.
A pound of Alliant Sport Pistol, which I like a lot for 9MM is the same price as N320.
I don't like SP that much, so I'll be using N320 when I'm out of it.

What’s your N320 9mm load? What other N320 loads (45) are folks using?Texasref wrote:Noticed in the latest Natchez mail order catalog that prices are up.

I use 3.9gr of 310 behind 185 SWC from Bayou and others. Results in
760fps out of a 5 in 1911. don't reload 9's

Re: N310 less expensive than Bullseye
VN 310 is BE loads less 1th gn in the summer time. VN310 is not recommended for 9mm except for 147s. Not good for 9mm any how.
VN 320 will work for mid range but is not great for Wadcutter loads. People say 320 is great for 9mm. I use w231 and cfe for 9mm.

Bruce,
I shoot a 147grn FP over 3.5grn of N320.
Don't use it for 45. N310 gets the nod there.
