HI STANDARD TAKE DOWN TOOL? Empty HI STANDARD TAKE DOWN TOOL?

Post by Russ OR Tue Sep 17, 2024 3:33 pm

Asking for a friend:
Does anyone know of, or were to get, a hi-standard take-down tool that pivots from inside the trigger guard & levers / presses the take-down button?

Thanks   -- Russ

The one in the video works with the models with a high up button, above the trigger guard (left photo), not the ones with the button in front of the trigger guard (right photo). I chatted with the person who made the video and I printed one, but my Supermatic 101 has the lower button, so it won't work for me. If yours is like the photo on the left, send me a private message with your address, I'll pop the tool in the mail to you, since I can't use it.

The Gunsmiths at the High Standard Plant in Houston use bench mounted tools to remove the barrels. These presses came from the CT plant. You drop the complete pistol on a magazine shaped post. You then turn a crank that has a lever that pushes the TD Plunger to release the barrel. Great for saving your thumbs !!!! This mobile device will be great for me at Camp Perry next year. I will make one over the weekend. Thanks for pointing out the you-tube. - Alan Aronstein

Hello,
Thank you for the interest in my project.

You can find the 3d files at my thingiverse page:  thingiverse .com/thing:6726042
Print at least 35% infill, the trigger guard cylinder bit likes to snap. Some light sanding and smoothing of the pusher-edge may be required to reduce friction. SOME times it's still not quite enough for especially sticky barrel studs. I'm considering having a machined version of this made with some sort of nylon or plastic wear surfaces, and a 'hammer' on the other end to give the button a bit of a start.

I don't have the other version of a high standard to make a plunger for it, but it should be simple enough,  though instead of a claw, I'd go with a oval or egg shape to get a more consistent force, given its more extreme angle.

I also have a mostly H&R focused discord, but I'm expanding it with some high standard and other stuff discussion/data/etc... collection
discord . gg/aYnMcGHc

Hi ,
Did you get a chance to make and test the tool? Any feedback is appreciated (within the limits of my design skills.)

HI STANDARD TAKE DOWN TOOL? Empty It broke - but

Post by Russ OR Sun Sep 29, 2024 6:46 pm

Posting for my friend, Bob, who ended up with it. (Grifo's hi-standards have the small, lo button) -- Seemed like it would work fine, but broke the 2nd (1st?) use.  -- Bob glued it together - has a friend with a duplicating(?) machine. He's going to see if the friend will make/duplicate one from some really tough hardwood he has.
Thank again Grifo! -- - Russ

Yea, theres a lot of force acting on some very small areas. So far the plastic one I printed has held up, but I dont seem to have any barrel studs that fit to tightly.

A duplicating machine is a great way to make one out of wood though, that's ingenious.
