200 Gr H&G 68 through a Kart NM barrel
Need some guidance. I've got a nicely built wad gun on a Springifled 1911 Mil base with a Kart NM barrel and bushing and the rest of the tune-up that goes with it. It's got a dot mounted on the slide. I spent some time working up loads using bullseye and found that 4.2 bullseye under a H&G 68 200 grain functions the pistol properly and drops the brass about 3 feet behind me. Chronographs about 775 fps +/- 40. Problem is that load does not do at all well on 50 yards. Would anyone care to share a pet load for a Kart match barrel in similar configuration that I might start with, rather than beginning all over again with the trial and error and bullet puller?
Thanks.

Not sure what brand bullet your using, but a we have a guy who makes the same hg 68 200 and with 4 gr. bullseye, 1.250 oal and .470 crimp they drop in the x ring @ 50 yds all day long from the same gun setup , if you can hold it there.
Different bullet brands dont always shoot the same even if the same style. I ransomed many lasercast 200, same 68 style and got sub 3'' groups with 3.9 of be.

Your load is fine. Make sure your bullets are as perfect as possible.

4.3-4.4 gr WST with the 200's has worked better for me than Bullseye with the same setup you described. 1-2 fingernail thickness' of lead exposed above the crimp (468-.470). 13# recoil spring. It shoots under 2 1/2" @ 50 yards with all my Kart barrels and functions in all 6 45's flawlessly.
I do like both BE and Clays for the short line. 3.5 gr with a H&G130.

I've gotten good groups with 3.8g N310 under a 200g SWC
4.0g of BE or 3.8g Clays is worth trying with the 200g bullet.
I seat the Laser Cast 200g SWC to 1.235" or 1/32" shoulder protrusion.

I agree that your load is fine. I have a Caspian with a Kart barrel and I shoot a 185 gr SWC from a well known caster over 4 gr of Bullseye. Even though they all look good I weigh them all and save the very best for the long line and the rest for the short line. Yes its a bit tedious but worth it. The best shoot great at 50 yards and you'd be surprised how far off the average weight a few are.jakuda wrote:Your load is fine. Make sure your bullets are as perfect as possible.

Thanks for the tips. I weighed a batch of bullets. Two groups: one is about 195 and the other about 203. Some sports running down in the 180s probably due to voids? I suspect the caster was using different molds, or different age molds and mixed the lots. That might explain it.

H&G 68 and Kart Barrel
From your description it sounds like we have the same gun. I've found that 4.0-4.2 BE works fine for me, but every pistol has its own characteristics. You might try 4.4 BE, or 4.4 HTG.
