As mentioned many times before I try to hit the range 3 times a week for practice.  In the beginning while being a complete novice even more than I am now I couldn't help but notice the different shooting styles used by others.  Everybody did something unique to them but all shot with 2 hands, no exceptions.  Somewhere along the line you guys encouraged me to shoot one handed and I have ever since.  But lately I'm noticing some of the same 2 handed shooters using only one hand, not all the time but occasionally.  Have I started a trend?  They can't be encouraged by the results on my target because I still can't hit the broad side of it with a .45.  Maybe it's because I looks so Hollywood doing it.

I see that at my range too. People see the gear and the one handed shooting at distant targets, and I get a lot of questions. I spend almost as much time answering questions or giving tips as I do shooting. The guys actually get the courage to try one handed shooting and realize it isn't impossible.

Each of us can be an advocate for the sport. Never miss an opportunity  to be a positive influence.

We offered the two handed option to several new shooters who came to our bullseye probationary matches but they all decided to compete one handed when they found out that's what most of us did.

I started at a different tack.  I started shooting one handed shortly after I started shooting. Now it feels strange to shoot two handed. About the only time I do is when Im shooting a new gun Ive never shot before. Just to get a feel for how it behaves.

Where did the current 2 handed shooting style originate?

My guess would be around the time the "Weaver and Isosceles" stances were being taught and everything evolved from there.
I, myself started shooting with two hands years ago and now after shooting Bullseye and International for about 6 years cannot really get comfortable shooting with two now, feels very awkward.

It's been around a while. Fairburn & Sykes included it in Shooting to Live With the One Handed Gun back in 1942. They concentrated on one-handed shooting but included two handed as an advanced technique that you might need for long shots. Hard to say where it actually originated but that's the earliest writing I've seen on the topic...
