Seeking Iron Sight Recommendation Empty Seeking Iron Sight Recommendation

Post by xseeker Thu Feb 05, 2015 1:42 pm

Hello, I'm new to the forum and pretty new to Bullseye Pistol shooting. I have a Taurus PT1911 as a starter .45 pistol and I want to put better sights on it. I know the receiver dovetail slot is not standard and I don't like the choices I've found for a slip-in sight. I am going to have a gunsmith fit something for me, but I don't know what to purchase. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

It may be best to talk to the smith doing the install...he will know what he can use & will probably have a source for parts(if not on hand)
One stop shopping has it's advantages.

Check with Brownells.  They might have something that will fit the Taurus cut:

Thanks Rob, but I've been there (online) and have talked with one of their techies about that exact sight. It doesn't fit, there are very few that do, none I've found are click adjustable for windage and elevation. Ideally, I'd like to find one that has interchangeable blades too. Shocked   I believe most parts on the PT1911 are standard 1911 parts - except for the dovetails, they are cut with a different angle and perhaps a bit smaller. I'm going to have them cut to standard, but I am wondering what more experienced Bullseye shooters are using on their 1911s?

Champion makes a nice sight
You may also consider the Rock River iron sight/scope mount combo rib
Maybe the Marvel combo?

Put a Marvel rail on it with a dot and don't look back. In the long run you will probably end up with a dot on it and you can skip the finding the right steel sight phase. IMO.

Thats a good point, otherwise any of the bomar style (kensight) will work.

If you have to go steel then +1 on Steve's Rock River Arms suggestion. Good choice to go both ways.

Thanks to all for your input. I'm liking the Rock River Bullseye Ramp a lot. I expect OldMaster64 is spot on when he said I'd probably end up with a dot for a sight. Hopefully, not for a while yet. I'm going to talk to a gunsmith to make sure there are no problems about fitting the RR Ramp on my PT1911, if not then that's the way I'll go. The iron sights on the ramp are what I had in mind anyways. I'll post a pic of the finished product.

OldMaster, you have found a great fix for me as well with this suggestion. Lers Baer sold me a new frame and redid parts on my slide after I bent the frame with a double load. I had Baer skip the stock frame mount and have been looking for a slide mount system.

This Rock river suggestion is perfect, I wanted iron sight backup and a mount for my Burris red dot. This kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Thanks!

Your welcome, but I was just doing a +1 on Steve Samlak's suggestion and added a link. Glad we could help.
