CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
First topic message reminder :
I've noticed from casual browsing that often our friends here will specify that their latest purchase or ammo test or good score shot with CCI Standard Velocity was the paper box 50-round stuff, or the plastic 100-round box stuff.
Just idle information, or are there reported differences between what gets packaged one way or the other.
Last 200 rounds of rimfire I've been able to get at the LGS has been SV-Plastic.
Just curious?
Do I need to get a bucket of popcorn now?

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
Cases and bullets are identical, only powder in paper box is different as it was several years ago when I did the same test and then questioned CCI about it, paperbox just has a number on the box 76683 00035C.Perkins wrote:David R;
Could you tell me if the LOT# on the paper box starts with a number or a letter.
Also are the bullets identical in shape and color between plastic and paper box.
Just curious to something I heard years ago about the difference in 0032 and 0035.
Thanks;

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
DavidR;
The paper boxes of 0035 have the lot number written on a small flap insert inside the box itself.
Remove the tray and look inside you will see a separate cardboard flap, not on the box lid like most do.
Well, anyway that is where it is on my boxes of 0035.
I heard years ago that 0035 lot#'s that start with a letter are CCI components and lot#'s that start with a number are Federal components.
Was just curious as to if your lot is Federal with a different powder.
It may all be an internet rumor, you know how that goes, if it's on the net then it myst be true

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
the number you ask for is 29421-00 and below it is D0021, now this box was bought last fall from midway, but I preformed the same test back before the ammo shortage using a paperbox that was bought back then, everything was the same including the black type powder. Ive heard the old federal rumor but these bullets and cases are identical to the plasticbox and pistol match in every way except the powder shape and color.

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
DavidR;
29421 is the lot#
I did some more research and what I stated earlier was true back in 2010.
Also need to add that if the tray had legs on it then it was Federal.
Things could have changed since then but I have been always curious about the difference.
I used to shoot plastic 0032 all the time cause I liked the trays, wished I would have kept more of them.
Switched to paper box 0035 and have had a few duds that I never had with plastic box so at that time I got to start wondering.
If anyone else can open their boxes and get the lot number, would like to know if any start with a letter.
Thanks;
Clarence

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
I'm not sure which #'s are the lot #'s now.
I always thought they were the embossed #'s on the paper.
My paper SV from circa 2010 would be L10011 (embossed) and 24514 on the 50 rd box flap and 24529 on the 500 ct box flap
My paper SV from 2014/15 would be M16V51 and M19V62 (embossed) and 29422 on the 50 rd box flap and 29421 on the 500 ct box flap.
the 100 plastic is A12R09
I suspect the 29 series #'s are just packaging numbers and the alphanumerics are the lot #'s.

My mistake, you are correct.
I have been looking and looking at these boxes and I looked again this morning and lo and behold the light shown on the box just right and I saw it pressed into the white area with writing on the outside bottom of the box.
I can hardly read it but it is there.
It is alphanumeric.

Re: CCI SV: Paper or Plastic?
Now on another forum I found an old thread that stated CCI admitted to using two powder suppliers to always avoid single supplier issues. This probably explains the powder difference.
