New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I recently bought some "new" CCI .22. It's the new style box and looks the same as usual. I usually practice FIFO (First In First Out), but I had only bought 4 bricks so though I would just shoot that first. I only shot 100 rounds and of that, 5 from the first box and 3 from the second box fired differently. They poofed, rather than popped, and left a big blue cloud of smoke. I wasn't able to tell if it affected the shot or where it landed on my target.
Has anyone ever experienced this with CCI, or any other .22 cartridge? I'm wondering if it is light strike from my pistol or the ammo. I don't remember this happening with the other CCI, but I could try another pistol. I know this is a small sample, but 8 of 100 is disconcerting.
Any ideas or opinions?
Thanks in advance,
Joel

You need to contact CCI and give them the lot number. They will probably want you to ship them the ammo so they can check it. They will send you replacement ammo.
And yes, I have experienced this with .22 ammo. I sent back a case of 711B last year and Federal sent me a case in return. They paid the freight both ways.

We recently had a discussion whether or not currently produced CCI SV packaged in the 100 plastic pack (0032) is the same ammo as is loaded in the 50 pack paper box (0035). The majority felt the difference was only packaging, and price due to packaging. The 0035 does not have lot numbers on each box, nor on each brick. However, a case of 5,000 of the 0035 does have a lot number printed on a label attached to the outer carton.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Friday, I just opened a new case of CCI-SV, the stuff with the orange stripe on the boxes. Shot 100 rounds, not a problem one. I hope my case is all right, because I've been reading bad things about CCI recently.

Well, the 4 bricks I bought will be practice ammo for sure. Either that or plinking around with, but not worth putting in my target pistols.

Yes, 0035.
I recently bought three bricks of that and the boxes have lot numbers on the flaps.
Shooting fine so far through the first brick.

Mine don't have lot numbers on them. The brick boxes don't either. I didn't buy a case, thank goodness, but sometimes the inner case box has a lot number.

The paper box is slightly different from the 0035 paper box ammo I have. The "red" TARGET banner at the bottom is not on any that I have.

I think that they just call is 35 now. Used to be 0035, then 035, now just 35. I think that 3.5 is on the horizon. Or, maybe just 3, unless they round it up, then 4. Someone, please stop me.
Thanks,
Joel

I have some that has a code stamped mechanically on the back (where all the writing is) that reads “E0 YA07”. You have to hold it so there’s a reflection off the box to see it. But it’s there. Obviously a code but there it is.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I've had lots of other issues with CCI 22 SV due to the 95 degree Florida temperature, but never experienced what you describe until today - but for me it was one round of Eley ammo from the CMP. Round after round sounded the same, and then one round sounded "funny", much quieter, sort of like a "whoosh". It stopped me in my tracks.
I removed the magazine, cycled the slide, and an empty round fell out. I checked the barrel (which is why I was taking it apart, just to be sure all was OK), and everything was fine - nothing in the barrel. It's never (knowingly) happened to me before, and it only happened this one time today. My thoughts are that for some strange reason I'll never find out about, that round wasn't fully charged.
Anyone with repeatable errors with ammo could set it aside, and call the distributor. In my case, they sent me a call tag so I could ship it back at their expense, they tested it thoroughly, and they told me it was normal, no issues. The problem apparently came from the wax on the CCI ammo melting in the Florida heat. They're replacing it with new armmo of course, but in the meantime I tested some leftover CCI on a day when it wasn't so hot, and the problem vanished.
Now I've got lots of ammo to try, but I need a day when the temperature is back up in the. 90's.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Have 2 cases of 5000 each going back to CCI with the sample of 100 shot out of 17-6. I shot a brick worth through 5 pistols, two M41, Supermatic Trophy, Nelson conversion and above mentioned 17-6. Only Trophy shot without any issues. Both 41s had issues with extracting case, Nelson had issue with very short cycling - shot round would extract but next round would not load from magazine, 17-6 had issue with needing to reload stricken round and re-strike it, one round took 3 times (probably because I didn't rotate it enough and had two strikes about 10 degrees from each other).
CCI opened case and is issuing tags to bring it back to their facilities and will ship replacement. Gentleman I talked to admitted they have an issues with new production.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
This is what I said to CCI and they requested 200 bullets for a sample. I am awaiting the results:
I have tried many boxes from the case I bought on 4 different pistols and all are having FTFs and stovepiping. Some pistols are worse than others. This is happening in 10-20%, which means I can't enter a match with these. Never had that problem before. Lot # L20ZA05. I have 2 more cases that I hope aren't affected. Some rounds are very white smokey and sound very different.
I am now using older cases and having no problems with them. I believe my CCI days may be over unless newer rounds are improved.

I have had lots of trouble in my sw 41 out of the cci ammo with the red stripe that says Target. I have none at all out of the older rounds.

new production CCI 35
FWIW,opened a new case of CCI 35, lot #G31AA03 with the red stripe on the box. No issues in the first 70 rounds, a small sample I know, but so far, so good.

Well I spoke too soon on that one. Just moments ago a UPS truck picked up that case to be sent back to CCI for a refund. Excessive wax gumming up the chamber, and accuracy was not up to par with the previous two cases of CCI-SV that I have shot. I'm not going to buy any for a year or so, maybe they will get their act together and start working more on customer satisfaction and less on worrying about profits.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Per my previous post, - I shipped two 5000 cases back at the end of November. Tested in five different pistols and revolvers. Included alone 100 shut out of revolver cases as an illustration. Ammo was received, tested and my complains confirmed by CCI's test shooting ammo. Several rounds had to be stricken twice or even three times. On semi-autos - FTEs, incomplete cycling, light strikes, etc. Only HS Supermatic Trophy had on issues with 100 rounds sample. Otherwise failure rate was about 8%. AP
