Re: Sightron red dots
Another view point for those wondering about or contemplating the Aimpoint Micro H-1...I was on the ground floor when the H-1 hit the Bullseye scene as a wrench puller for one of the original Aimpoint Team members.
I didn't like the Micro at first.. The mounting base was not up to the task for a slide mount optic .. There is no provision for extensions/filters.. All that has now been addressed for those who wish to shoot a an Aimpoint Micro. I have installed a very high number of H-1s, with custom bases and threaded extensions that will accept the metric thread of Ultra Dot filters....All on Master and High Master guns.. Shooters who routinely shoot in the low to mid 2600s.. Shooters who can detect issues and problems.. Not one..NOT ONE has had an issue..
The real problem is finding someone to make the necessary modifications to make the Micro as flexible in Bullseye competition as possible with the bases and extensions..It's a fabulous Bullseye optic, when set up properly.. an extremely durable sight that weighs 3 oz..
A few examples..of what can be done with the Aimpoint micro..

Frank (Froneck), A question for you. You just bought a Sightron and a 9000Sc. If you had the choice today of purchasing a new Sightron for 145.00 or a great looking (used) 9000Sc for 275.00 which way would you go?

Re: Sightron red dots
Well a friend of mine looked at the 2 yesterday because he's looking for a red dot scope. He liked the Sightron better and thought the dot was better too and that the Sightron 5 MOA dot was more like 3 MOA. Your asking a tough question, if I was comparing both scopes at the new price I would pick the Sightron. However not shooting with the Sightron on the gun yet I would select the 9000SC for $275 assuming it is in excellent condition because the AMU likes them and they are shooting everyday so the 9000SC is well tested and liked by top shooters.

Re: Sightron red dots
I am going to kick myself tomorrow for not buying this right now. But I think I will grab one of the 3 Sightrons left at Optics Planet. They have their 10% off thing going. But this looks like too good of a deal not to share with the forum. I suspect that if there is even one bid the 275.00 BIN will go away. NFI

It's gone. I had too long to think about it. Decided not to kick myself this morning.

30 mm Ultradot and a 9000SC
Wow, the 9000SC is huge. I read all about running them on a 1911 but I think that I would have to spend quite awhile working up a load/spring combination. Luckily I had a several options in mind when I bought it. This .45 is the most accurate .45 I own. It never fails to feed, fire and doesn't care what I feed it. It also balances great with this scope.

Re: Sightron red dots
I liked the first sightron I bought so much.. I bought another for my 22 I've shot in two matches so far with them I really like them no image reduction .the clicks are nice and firm .the lenses are very clear. the dots are very sharp. I will be ordering another one for yet another pistol .definitely done with ultradots. And the warranty card that comes with it in the Box says they just replace they don't repair.. I highly recommend this site if you can't afford the AimPoint..

I did the same thing. Bought one, liked it and ordered another. The first is on a .22. The second will go on a 1911 as soon as I get a scope rail mounted.

Mine came in the mail today. Put 100 rounds down range and think is is better than any of my ultradots. I will be buying another one.

Went to the Aiimpoint Store early this morning... The old scope is one of the very first Micros and it is beginning to have issues.. Many thousands of rounds have been fired and many matches won with that scope.. As soon as I remove the adapters, it will return to Aimpoint to be rebuilt..

I looked at the H-2.. He had plenty in stock.. The rubber flip ups are removable, but the eyepiece is smaller on one end .. It is threaded internally, which would require a stepped down adapter.. It's doable, but I decided to pass on it this time.. Time is running out.. Perry is not that far off..

I stole ($71.05) a Sightron S33-Mil today on E-bay and will be giving it a test real soon. They are big but I can't imagine them being larger then the 9000sc. I will post some comparison pictures and field test soon.

Re: Sightron red dots
The Sightron S33-MIL came and I took some comparison pictures. Size wise it is just a little bigger then the Ultradot 30mm but clarity wise it is much brighter to look thru and if anything has a slight magnification instead of a reduction. The dot is perfectly round (even to my eyes) and does look smaller then my Ultradot 4 mil. The S33-MIL has some features not found on the regular S33 scopes. Caps that are secured and extra functions on the illumination dial. There are 2 settings for use with current NODs (handy for midnight matches) and a "A" setting that automatically adjust the brightness to match current light conditions. I will be giving that setting a good testing. I plan on putting it on a pistol that Roddy is doing a trigger job. The rings that came with the scope are pretty poor quality and I will be looking for decent 33mil rings.

Re: Sightron red dots
I got one of the Sightron 30-5s to try on my 45 last month... dot is smaller than a 4mil to my old eyes... no negative reduction..
one thing I like that I don't see that anyone mentioned is the extension tubes and filters for the Ultradot 30mm fit the sightron.!!! I much prefer the adjustable filter Ultradot has as long as you tape it or use a rubber band to keep it in place once adjusted.
So far so good

Wow, 33mm rings are hard to find that don't break the bank. Several choices over 100.00 only one (I found) other than Sightron that looks good. I ordered a set and will report back sometime??

Re: Sightron red dots
I made extension tube for the Sightron S30-5. Having a friend at the club using the UltraDot Match Dot wanted extensions for his scope. The Sightron has a reducing bushing on the end thinking it was a thread protector I used it as a gauge to make the extension. When I attempted to screw the extension into the scope with the "thread protector" removed if fell in as it was much too small. Furthermore it was tight screwing into the UltraDot bushing though the thread pitch and diameter was the same. Removing the bushing I could easily screw in the bushing from the Sightron. Later when I made the larger thread size extension it too would fit the Sightron and the UltraDot with the bushing removed. However it was a little snug going into my friends UltraDot probably due to manufacturing tolerance. My Sightron did come with the filter that is very similar to the UltraDot filter. I didn't try the Sightron filter in the UltarDot Bushing, I don't like them. I do like the extension tube like the AMU is using on the 9000SC and find it makes a good sunshade without the darkening of the field of view so I made it for the Sightron too. Didn't rain at Perry this year so I didn't get a chance to test it in the rain. The rain "filter" was made from clear Acrylic and Sun Shade from black Acrylic.
