Target height
Greetings to all
I am new to bullseye and a new member of the forum. I am a disabled vet with 28 years of service. I have attempted bullseye in the past, but now at the age of 62, I love the challenge. Right now, I am just trying to keep my shots on paper (let alone in the scoring rings). My question is this........
Is there a specific height that the center of the target is supposed to be?
I have searched and read over the NRA rules.
Forgive me if I have overlooked the answer to my question.
All the best
Doug

Target Height
This question has been asked many times. Answer is nobody can find anything in print for NRA range specs. However, can't go wrong with 55 inches plus or minus 2". The 55 inches comes from ISSF/Olympic spec for air pistol/air rifle and (I believe) Free Pistol ranges. The actual numbers are 1400MM plus or minus 50MM.

Height of Target Center
55 Inches; It's not in the Rules, where you would expect it to be. It's in the NRA Range Source Book, which refers to the ISSF RuleBaldingEagle wrote:My question is this........

While we're on the topic of targets, can anyone find any rule addressing hospital targets?

Thanks to Richard for the answer. Not too many folks have access to this manual.

Re: Target height
Thanks to all who answered. At least I don't feel like an idiot cause I couldn't find the answer. I shoot out behind my house and I want to at least have my target set up correct. Now, if I can only find other legit excuses for my poor performance!

Welcome!
Don't expect much slack for a fellow fortunate enough to shoot "out in my back yard". It takes me longer to pack-load car-unpack-setup-shoot-repack..........well you get the picture.
Good shooting!

Re: Target height
Hey Colt
I've waited all my life to be able to shoot in my backyard. But, I live on a high plains desert. Not a tree in sight! Just whistle pigs and badgers. And, never met a badger with a good disposition.

Re: Target height
My sons, bro in law & a cousin hunted Antelope 3 yrs in WY, Bosler (N of Laramie) twice & Gillette once. Visited a few times and really loved the West. Used a .257 Imp Win FW I had chambered for the purpose. We had a ball ! Used it for Woodchucks in OH and it provided a lot of enjoyment. My hunting days are over but I am envious of you! Are you an Elk hunter?

Re: Target height
My hunting days are pretty much over too. But yes, I used to hunt elk, mule deer, coyotes. I have applied for a DAV Elk hunt thru the Idaho Veterans Services. They only select 2 veterans. Doubt that I have much of a chance, but what the heck. This hunt will accomodate disabled vets (like me). The guides do all the work. The cabin has disabled accomodations too. If I get selected, it will be the hunt of a lifetime for me!!

And, yes, the mountains of Idaho are beautiful!

Welcome to the best forum (IMHO) for shooters who think accuracy is only second to safety. I'm certain you will find the members eager to help and share their knowledge as you may have already experienced. This forum has no political agenda and deals with factual and anecdotal data, a rare treat on the web.

Thanks for taking time to make a comment. I read this forum everyday (afterall, I am retired). In fact, I am reading all I can on Bullseye. I have learned alot. Now, I have to apply it to my training. I am almost obsessed with Bullseye. I have a Ruger 22-45 that is a work in progress.
And I agree, this forum is a refreshing change from troll ridden, opinionated other forums.
All the best,
Doug

Re: Target height
It really is nice that on this forum people are willing to identify their opinions as such and are gentle with their criticism of others. I enjoy being around people who are willing to help their fellow shooters. Ever had a battery go bad at a match? If you do, I will bet several shooters will be pulling one out of their box just to help you. True sportsmanship, true gentlemen. And no question is silly
